OU’s recruiting is really struggling, Venables seat is really warm in Norman it will not surprise if we circle back in Bentley and his head ultimately wins out over his heart.

I’d love for it to be Hurley. Kid has been all LSU since high school. Never made sense to me why he reclassified though. If he doesn’t win the job next season I couldn’t blame him if he goes in the portal.

I doubt that will be the case except for gadget plays.

Heavy red zone - 1st and goal - packages for him would make sense. Nuss makes it tough to run in the goal line area based on our RPO and Read Option scheme.

Are we going to grab a top recruit or portal QB? Someone on the roster already?

Portal guy

We are not starting a true freshman. Currently on the roster the only one to have a chance is Van Buren. Would be amazing if he turned out to be a Jaden in the rough. This is his season to declare that "I got next." His credentials are not too bad to date.

Van Buren was pretty damn impressive on a really bad state team last year.

Don’t forget about Russell Sheppard. He’s got all the tools.

I would expect he will compete vs a high level transfer with a track record. If none is available then that would bode well for him.

Van Buren. We’ve already got a street named for him in the vicinity of campus.

Highlight reels don't generally show the flaws but I'm not so sure they actively go after a transfer. One might fall in their lap but Van Buren has the arm, the poise, the anticipation. I especially like his aggressiveness as a runner.

we won't need to hit the portal for a starter for a while
We will 100% bring in a portal qb next offseason. Whether or not he starts over van Buren and Hurley remains to be seen but we will definitely sign another qb.

we will sign a top 5 qb out of high school ,I dont know that were comfortable with a freshman ,Hurley and van Buren though. I just meant that we will have our next big time prospect in next year's recruiting class and we probably won't need to get a starter out of the portal if van Buren ends up being the guy. if not they may sign someone for competition

I can just about bank on it that BK and Sloan definitely look for Van Buren to take the reins next year. This dude was very good even at crap Mississippi St. he already has SEC playing experience and you get this guy around talent that LSU will have and he will be very dangerous. I’m quite comfortable with Van Buren. But who knows Hurley may shock people and I hope he does.

Don't sleep on ju'juan Johnson. Coach Sloan said he's the most electric guy on offense and he's the only other qb with a whole package built for him in both short yardage and redzone opportunities.

That doesn’t mean he is capable of being a starting quarterback.

Question m:

We know why guys leave early to get to campus. Learn offense, S&C, creating team chemistry etc etc…but lots of guys graduate 6 months early, he graduated 18 months. It is all hindsight, BUT:

Do y’all think Hurley made the correct decision to join LSU a year early?

I type that and remember Underwood was in his class so we may have gotten him to campus to avoid being in the same class. But I truly feel like the kid wasted a year.

We will need a upper classman from the portal like Burrow and Daniels

We have done well with transfer QBs, Mauck (sort of a transfer from minor league baseball), Mettenberger, Etling, Burrow and Daniels.

Truly successful homegrown are Jamarcus, Flynn and Nuss. And Jamarcus and Flynn are a generation ago.
