Can someone tell me what the obsession over this one singular woman's basketball player is? I appreciate the help as I admit I don't know women's basketball at all but have seen this one player posted about so much on here.

She's the best player in the portal to date. And with the loss of Morris, she is a proven elite player that can fill that void.

Imagine if you were the reigning champion Chicago Bulls of the 90s and Cleveland's 4x all-star sharp-shooter *Mark Price (with Danny Ainge's fiery competitiveness) decided to play PG for the champs.
* (Athletically, HVL is closer to a Steve Nash comp over the slow-footed Price, but HVL's game doesn't possess the pass-first/play-making skills of Nash. Her overall game is closer to Price.)

To the few, sure. The biggest reason is she's the top player in the portal. She also talks a lot of shite which would be fun to see. Get her and we will continue to be a must see team on tv. If we land Morrow as well then holy hell we may go undefeated.

The same reason that it was important that Angel Reese and Alexis Morris showed out for girls that look like them. Being a good basketball player is obviously WAY more important than anything else but to say that people don't like to cheer for athletes that look like them would be a lie. Especially if its in an area where people that look like them are the minority. Its why this board loved Jack Bech so much.
And this isn't a racist take. It goes in all directions. Its why black people stan so hard for black QBs and its why people in the Caribbean LOVE MLB players from their country more than American born players.

Eh. Idk about this one. The women had tons and tons of support during their championship run and it wasn’t because there were a ton of white people on the floor.
Also, the thing that matters to sports fans more than skin color: winning.
