Weston Davis vs Lance Heard

Weston Davis has way more athleticism. He's got the long arms and skill to be a true top flight LT. Lance Heard has the strength advantage, and probably is a better run blocker, but lacks the feet and athleticism that Davis has. I dont understand Heard's obsession with being a LT because he is a perfect fit at RT. I would love to have him but with Davis coming Heard would most likely have had to play RT anyways after Campbell leaves and Davis is in his second year.

In reality, Heard would've been a depth player and then a one-year starter, so unless we have major injuries, it's not that big of a loss. If Davis or someone else can be a solid starter in 2025, then it won't matter.

Heard was no one year starter.

I don't get the infatuation with people not getting why Heard wanted to play the same position that he's played the whole time he's played ball. He was a 5 Star for a reason. He left. No need to spin time trying to make him a villian, and compare his skillset to a kid a year younger, and not developed yet.

Well he likely would’ve been one had he come back to LSU. We have all starters coming back except center. So Heard wouldn’t start until next year, his junior year. Then go pro after his junior year

Well, he wasn't going to start this year, his sophomore year.
He would likely start his junior year, and then leave for the NFL (whether ready or not)
I'm not great at math, but that's one year.

Im very good at math and concur with your result

To be fair, I believe he flipped back and forth between DL and OL prior to transferring to Neville. Once there, he played RT bc their LT was...you guessed it, Will Campbell. I don't believe he has played LT his whole career, it is likely just a more attractive position from a draft perspective so he wanted to play there instead of RT. As everyone mentioned, he would likely only have one year to start there as he isn't beating out Campbell so he left to get a bigger bag and a starting spot this year. Nothing wrong with that, best of luck to him.

Who was left tackle at Neville?

I mean he did try to shakedown the program for more money.
People are gonna get bitter about that.

Why the hell not?

What are you talking about?? He only played one year at LT his senior year of HS. Campbell was LT the rest of his time. I am not making him into a villain. Im just saying his aspirations are in the wrong position. He doesnt have the athleticism to be an NFL LT. But he has the perfect traits to be a solid NFL RT.

Lets not kid ourselves. Heard was going to be a very good tackle. Its a big loss and we better hope Davis pans out and is ready to play early.

Its a loss for sure but not exactly a big loss. You have to look at what we are exactly losing. We lose one year of play as a starter. Either at left or right tackle. When you see what we have coming in the next two classes, along with the money we save by not paying him, it really doesn't become that big of a loss.

Heard is an excellent prospect and damn good player in limited time. How good he will be remains to be seen. But he has big time potential and leaving LSU doesn’t change that.

LTs make more money in the NFL.
It’s a premier position.
Honestly though, unless he can snap the ball i didn’t see an opening anywhere on the OL especially if he refused to play Guard.
He simply never looked better than Jones

No need for fans to play the jilted girlfriend. Heard is going to be a very good player. He's raw, but has potential to be a 1st rounder. Davis is raw as well and will need development, but possesses great athleticism. Timing and Heard's desire for immediate PT didn't work out, but Brad Davis has proven his ability to go out and get great OL so it's all good.

I hope he's drafted to the same team as Will Campbell

Nor does leaving LSU enhance his "potential".
It very arguably does undermine his development as a a player, as LSU now has excellent OL coaching that is very good.
All he has done is left his teammates for a raise at a program that doesn't have the promise (for development, for championships) that LSU does.
Lance wants money and he wants it now. He got it.

A quick story, you know I’ve got a million of them. I happened to be talking with a coach in his office. The phone rang, an area code he didn’t know. Put it on speaker. It was the scouting department for one of the NFL teams. They wanted to know about a player, they were looking to get. The coach told them everything he knew, answered every question. This went on for a while. After he told me, many times they know the answers to the questions they ask. You have to be truthful, or they’ll never call you again.
