I don't like the portal rule, but if we get a big name hire from a highly ranked program, we may drag some good players with him.

Anyone who thinks this is not going to kill recruiting is simply naive.

Kill is a bit strong and I'm not sure if you've been paying attention, but this recruiting class has been dying on the vine since August.

Some guys are going to leave the class and sign elsewhere.

Some guys are going to leave the class and still consider LSU depending on the hire.

Some guys are going to stay in the class but look around and make a final decision based on the hire.

Some guys are going to sign with LSU no matter who the coach is.

Fortunately for us, it's a great year for in-state recruiting, so there are going to be a lot more guys in that last category than in other years.

I would expect early signees to either bail or hold off until the hire is made. These coaching changes are way more complicated now because of early signing day. Hopefully Howard is 100% on board. We need players to simp for the program.

My concern is missing on some guys because of Early signing day or early enrolling.

Agree. I can’t think of another time when a school has fired its football coach in October but kept him on till the end of the year? Who is going to be reaching out to those recruits for the next two months?

Definitely will be key to try and get guys like Jacoby Mathews and Quency Wiggins to hold off on signing anywhere on ESD.

Recruiting was already on a slide in the summer. We had a five star de-commit and new commitments came to a screeching halt (while others were ramping up). We slipped from number 3 to number 9.

At least a lot of the negative recruiting to moms now goes out the window (as concerns keeping around any potential lingering ties to persons that can be accused of not addressing Title IX issues.

Think it’s really important that at least Mickey Joseph and Corey Raymond are retained on staff for this purpose. Recruits really like these guys.
Plus whoever is hired MUST bring in a good support staff that can relate to, evaluate, develop, and bring in recruits.

More importantly, maybe they are keeping O and Woodward is supervising to keep the big names on the team already from jumping ship by way of the portal.
“We (Woodward, LSU, and administration) are committed to bring in a big time coach that you will love to play for! Stay before you make any rash decisions. We have a vision for the program and you are essential to that!”
That’s the pitch. Should also be the pitch for any “must have” recruits either committed or uncommitted. Don’t sign with another school until you see who is coming and they talk to you,

Completely agree. Welch already stated that if Raymond leaves then he is decommitting. The new coach would be very smart to keep corey raymond and mickey joseph around bc of their ties to LA and ties to recruits. In my opinion, everyone else on staff is replaceable except maybe Faulk and Brad Davis if OL continues turn around.

The recruits had already heard about the shite show behind the scenes from the players. That might explain why some had already decommitted.

There's no maybe about this. Woodward is flying the plane now. Orgeron is his just his co-pilot.

Recruiting should be handled at Woodward's direction and probably relying on Austin Thomas, Mason Smith and the rest of the recruiting staff as much as possible. I expect that there will be less immediate turnover with those guys than with the actual on field coaches.

Based on Woodward's statement last night, I don't think we're going to see a total house cleaning, especially in the support positions.

The best thing that can happen in the coming home games is for the leaders of the 2022 class [Howard, Campbell and others] along with Nussmeier / Ryan and others from the 2021 class should be recruiting all to take as many unofficial visits as they can to LSU for the Arkansas and A&M games. Hopefully the new coach will be named before the SECC and we'll have lots of official visits with the new staff the second week of December [timely for instant commitments and early enrollment].

Howard and all the DT/OT commits need to be a high priority.
