Nothing significant happens today. A "commitment date" is nothing more than a "this is how I'm feeling today" event. It doesn't mean he will ultimately sign where he "commits" and these days doesn't even make it more likely.
They really should change it from a "commitment" to "current preference".

Here’s a wildcard that may be worth mentioning: These two guys play for the same team and are committing at the same time. There is only one common team left in both of their lists, LSU.
It would make sense if they both committed at the same time to go to the same school. If that’s the case, it would have to be LSU.
