Agreed. That law really needs to be looked at. If both of them are in High School it is a way different scenario. I dated Sophomores when I was a senior. Its very common.

What if she was 10? The issue is that at some point a child is too young to consent. Most people would agree that an 18 and 16 year old is no issue, but what about a 16 year old with a 40 year old? In France that’s okay. In fact, the French are moving the age of consent to 15. So, a 15 year old with a 40 year old would be legal there.

well when the girl is 15 and the guy is 18 then yes thats a problem. if it was your daughter I promise you that you would have a different opinion.

THE ORIGINAL INTENT of the law is NOT how it is being applied.
I was 20 when at LSU and dated a 16 year old ...
we are still friends to this day .... 50 years later.

You're the only problem man. Its not just someones daughter, but also someones son.
You should raise your daughter with a moral compass, and then let her make her own mistakes. Being overprotective will cause her to act out, and more importantly its terrible for her development.
Your daughter will have a sexual identity just like everyone else in the world, and the less you obsess over it, the better.
I cant stand self-righteous over protective parents - you are as detrimental to your daughter as an absentee parent. Too hands off, and too involved are both extremely detrimental from a developmental standpoint.

Definitely think 15 is too young for overall consent (partner of any age), but there should be a 3-4 year age separation rule for people around the driving age of 15-16 (anything younger is major problem due to social limitations and immaturity). If a 15 year old is dating/sleeping with an 18-19 year old, that should not be illegal if consensual. If you can be in high school at the same time, you shouldn't be at risk for prosecution.
The parents of children who can drive or have friends in the same grade who can drive need to take responsibility for the their son or daughter's freedom in relation to their maturity with decision making. If they obviously can't make good decisions, they shouldn't be allowed to date or drive in a car with the opposite sex without adult/parental supervision.

Man, did you ask how old your dates were in HS? Didn't date too many younger than me but I can't imagine that even being a topic of conversation...'This is supposed to be a really good movie, by the way, what's your birth date?' - Thats just plain creepy and weird. Looks like 18/17 is OK but the cutoff is 18/16 (that's senior/junior and could even be senior/senior).
