I’ll get this out of the way. I know that many of you think that the portal makes conventional recruiting a thing of the past, but it still remains the backbone of any successful program.

I used to be on the fence for the most part about TX and OU joining the SEC. Sure, I had reservations about scheduling and some other obvious stuff. Lately, I’ve been really worried about recruiting.

Texas has always been a fertile recruiting ground for LSU all the way to Dallas. When A&M joined the conference, LSU was still very successful in recruiting the state because of its size and high number of recruits. Before, LSU could use the SEC argument against OU and TX all the way to Dallas, which is where OU and TX are really active.

These kids who want to play in the SEC now have more options and closer to home, rather than the B12. I hope I’m wrong, but seeing these battles (Colin Simmons, Caden Durham, others), as well as battles with A&M for the big fish, looks like the state of things to come.

Time will tell whether I’m wrong

LSU will always have it's most success when they keep the top talent in the state home. I understand that's not 100% or even 75% of a class but that will not change. We definitely have to win some of those battles in Texas, GA, FL and only one of those states is new to the SEC. The backbone of our class will always be guys like Mckinley, McBryde, Singleton, Berry, Moses, Simon, Stewart etc. Keep those guys home and I think we'll be just fine as we always are.

It hurts A&M the most imo. LSU will still do well with east Texas.

We have a real coach now. We're not afraid of anybody.

Actually, it’s the big uglies that I think LSU will lose to the others. LSU has already been losing those to A&M in previous cycles. Now the competition has been taken to another level.
Traditionally, Louisiana doesn’t produce enough linemen or quarterbacks, although the past couple of cycles that has changed somewhat. Seems to be cyclical. Therefore, LSU has dipped mostly into TX, Fla., some Ga. and Alabama. Mississippi has always been hard to get recruits to leave.
Just pray that the SEC doesn’t expand any more. Especially into Florida.

Coach Kelly isn’t as important in recruiting as the assistants and the support staff. As long his hiring and retention continues to be strong (see Saban’s problems), that shouldn’t be a problem.

what lineman have we lost to A&M? We just signed our best 2 OL classes ever on paper
LA will have a 4* OL this year
A couple 4* next year
and maybe two top 10 OTs in 26

If this is your logic, then A&M is the one who it hurts the most.

You are not taking into account one...big...thing...

OU and UT are going to get brutalized by an SEC schedule. They will no longer contend because they'll have 3-4 losses every year to start.

Unless those two schools can somehow contend for titles early, this domino effect will keep kids from going there when they can get NIL deals to go to schools that have a chance to win championships...even divisional titles.

If we win it doesn't matter. We just need to win. Saban recruits LA really well, and has walked into our back yard and taken top recruits. The reason they were able to do this is because they win.

The last 2 offensive line classes have both been excellent so im not sure that concern has any merit. Neither Texas not Oklahoma is in a great spot talent wise right now and will more than likely be middle of the pack once they start playing a SEC schedule.

Houston is where we get a lot of recruits. This isn't changing. The LSU brand will go wherever it wants to for recruits if we keep winning.

Probably hurts Arkansas quite a bit more. They really depend on Texas recruiting
