Are you aware that they lost Richardson from MS state, he decided to enter the draft. They also had their two stud transfers from Tennessee flip on them to go to Louisville. So that's why they have room now.

The way it’s looking don’t count on any name you see enter the portal.
Other teams are doing what it takes to get them and hopefully win now.
Apparently we have a different strategy. Kelly is gambling on his way. No one can say if it will work or not work until it happens or doesn’t.

I know one thing, I can’t stomach Ole Miss winning a championship in football.

Kelly has said from day 1 his approach is to build primarily through HS recruiting, not the transfer portal. So it's no surprised that you've seen him bring in less transfers each season. However, when he does take a transfer he's said that his preference is the guy have more than 1 year of eligibly remaining. Sometimes he's had to go against that preference because of need (Bernard-Converse in 2022, Speights in 2023, among others) and the results have been somewhat mixed. I'm guessing here he thinks the need at the CB position is not great enough to take a 1 year player. Particularly when doing so is going to require you to eventually move someone off your current roster to make room

We should be all in on next year too. There's 11 playoff spots up for grabs. No excuses, we should be in position to compete for a championship next year. We would have been on the outside looking under the 12 team system this year because of a shite defense. Do you want to be left at 12 or 13 and not get in because we didn't load up to go in on this year?

From what I’ve seen up to this point, we have a few CBs who can fill #2 and #3 CB roles but no #1…
That’s concerning….

I was not aware of them losing all 3 of those guys I knew about Tyler Baron. Makes more sense now.

They won't. We already saw how this paying for players goes with A&M. I feel like the whole program going to implode once all these checks bounce.

It will be a very selfish and dysfunctional team.

They lost their best player from last year, and had a bunch of stud transfers flip on them. They wont win a championship. It may be easier for them to make the play offs because of it being 12 teams now. But thats going to make it harder for them to win a championship. No chance in hell they can beat an Ohio State and Michigan and Georgia back to back in the playoff. Look how bad Georgia beat them last year. That was with Judkins and before Georgia got Ettiene and Caleb Downs.

We tried on this one, we didn't try on Ricks. We talked to Ricks and decided it wasn't worth it. If Ole Miss is given ungodly amounts of money, then oh well. They lost 2 CB transfer portal just recently.

How the hell do they have room for anyone else? I was not under the impression that they were losing a lot of players from last season anyway.

When you can’t get commits from high school players you tend to have more room.

Kelly is building a stable foundation with HS recruits with a transfer here and there when needed. He’s not building 1 year year flash in the pan rental teams like what Kiffin is doing next year. Saban and Kirby were never heavy portal teams because their programs are so stable they don’t need to be. That’s what Kelly is doing here.

Kiffin doesn’t give a damn about ole miss long term. He can bounce any off-season he pleases and if he wins 8 games a year at ole miss he can stay there 40 years. They are overpaying kids based on the market and they know it but they don’t care.

Kelly refuses to do that. It is what it is.

I think it is more of the fact OM knows they can't consistently compete in HS recruiting with programs like Georgia, Texas, LSU, Alabama, Ohio St., etc, etc. So they are using "free agency" to build their teams. It's not unlike big market MLB teams (like the Dodgers). They choose to build rosters with high priced FAs rather than primarily through their farm system. LSU, Georgia, Alabama, build through their "farm systems".

Frankly, it's probably a smart move for OM. Why fight tooth and nail to match Georgia in HS recruiting when you know you probably can't. Get the guys you can and go find the top FAs to fill in the rest. But for a QB injury, that strategy would have had FSU in the playoffs this season.

Easy....

1) Add top end players and let them all battle it out in the spring. Whoever is on bottom, they will unfortunately have to process out, OR

2) add top end players, and let NIL money become the "scholarship", saving true scholarships for those athletes not able to get top NIL money. Some schools are already doing this.

And this shite right here tells you all you need to know about banking on portal bag chasers.

They aren’t winning a championship. Best case is they sneak into the playoff and get beat in the first or second round.

This is so important and something people overlook when the shiny object in the portal gets flashed in front of their faces. Portal guys should be fill-in's, not the building blocks of your team.

Yeah, but the other side of that coin was the fact that FSU had no quality depth and completely fell apart without that QB. Then the whole team opted out and watched as UGA beat their brains out with a team that chose not to opt out and make a point.
