Kinda funny how we have three 5 star players coming in (Hurley, Sampson, Brown) who aren’t 5*’s anymore over arbitrary bullshite. Can’t wait to see what those three do on the field in 3 years

Hurley dropped because they haven’t evaluated the 2025 class that hard. He will move up this year

“What’s up with those ugly shirts?”

They posted some of Hurley’a throws.
Absolute darts. Flicking the ball all over the place with ease.
Billy’s Tweet with a nice deep ball

Very impressive lower unit.

I really dont want to get my hopes up too much on this kid. He says all of the right things and carries himself in a way that is sure to gain many followers. I havent seen any indication that he is not 100% LSU, I just have to reserve most of my excitement for the day he inks that letter. When that day comes, I will very happy to see this young man lead our team into battle.

I don't think you know what "arbitrary" means. All three of those guys are studs, but there were reasons they dropped.
Sampson is currently a size/speed/athleticism freak without a ton of polish to his game. He's also much more of a straight-line athlete than laterally quick, from what I've seen. Doesn't mean he's not gonna be a star, but it is still a legitimate knock.
Brown leaves a bit to be desired from a size standpoint, and had something of a disappointing senior year (he's said this himself). For what it's worth, I think brown IS underrated--but having a lackluster senior season isn't an "arbitrary" reason for dropping in rankings.
And Hurley just dropped because he reclass'd and is now grouped in with QBs who have already been evaluated closely for a year. He's basically ranked as high as a QB prospect can possibly be ranked with the extent to which he's been evaluated. He is a 100% lock to rise once he catches up to his class in terms of exposure. Also not arbitrary.
ETA: I also just want to note the fact that Hurley seems to still be growing. I cannot wait for this kid.

I like his quote from your link. Very articulate young man who strikes me as intelligent and humble. Of course, if he ever decommits from LSU he's then just "Tigerbait."
“You also have to be very pleased with the ‘23 Class in recruiting and the manner in which the team recruited and used the Transfer Portal,” Hurley said after watching LSU’s Citrus Bowl win. “I feel very good about the ‘24 Class and think it will be a pivotal piece of what’s to come at LSU Football. I’m excited about heading up that class and we plan to recruit “dudes” who are committed to bringing a National Championship to Baton Rouge.”

You’re apparently the one who doesn’t know what it means, and you don’t know what you’re talking about regarding the “reasons” they actually dropped.
Sampson dropped due to not participating in certain events, not due to his performance. He had about the best season a 5A+ player can have and he has every necessary tool to be a 5*. Dropping someone because they aren’t physically present at an event is arbitrary
And regarding Brown, when you have certain players (Manning is a perfect example) who are 5*’s because “””potential””” in spite of poor high school stats, that’s the definition of arbitrary as well.

So...they evaluated him closely enough to rank him a 5* in ‘24 based on talent and potential but because he reclassified, he’s suddenly not going to be as good when he’s a senior in college?
Do you know what the metric used to rank a 5* is according to 247 and On3? Because you’re the one who’s apparently out of the loop on a lot of things. It’s not who had the best season, it’s who they project as being a first round draft pick. That has nothing to do with senior year stats, reclassifying, or apparently Sampson being unpolished which is news to me. There’s no consistent rhyme or reason to anything the recruiting services did this season.

Great post. No matter how many times it's explained to some they just can't let go of the fact that the lines between some of these ratings are blurred and flat out opinion based, sometimes with favoritism involved but mostly just nitpicking.
The only "arbitrary" part is the set number of 5*s. That in itself tells you that #32 and 33 could be all things equal yet one will be a 5* and one will not. Thats arbitrary.

They have not been. I was at this tournament. The QB play was not great. Lots of 4 stars who will be busts. They are rated based on marketing/politics/measurables at this point. I watched one blue chipper lead his team to an 0-4 record. After he threw two picks against us, he got surrounded by recruiting reporters like he was some superstar. I was literally asking myself, "did they not watch the game?"
[For the record, I am not talking about Hurley. I didn't get to see him play because of conflicts with our games and his team got eliminated early on Sunday]
BTW: Here's a link to 6 minutes of Hurley's play at the tournament: LINK
