All it takes are a couple elite players to change the game.
Let me introduce #40...

We don't need stars to tell us he is a beast. So many ranking services are biased, uninformed, and lazy. That's why people say stars don't matter.

Those people aren't very smart. There will always be outliers but star rankings definitely matter overall and there are a ton of stats to prove it.

I guess there is some other reason why teams like Ohio State, Bama, Georgia, etc. always field top 10 teams. Stars definitely matter in college.

We don't need stars
Ask Alabama if they like stars.

Stars matter...to an extent. They're not the end all, be all. You're less like to turn a team full of only 3-stars into a national contender. But some 3-stars blossom late and play like 5-stars. Plus there are other factors like good coaching. But in the end, a team mixed with 4 and 5 star players has a better chance at contending than a team with none.

Stars matter at important positions: Jack, CB, QB, WR. There are some positions where having elite players really changes the game. Perkins is showing out but we have a good offense with a walk on RB

Ask 8T4 if the five stars saved this team.........

Difference makers come in all shapes and sizes and rankings. But Harold is a true 5 star . And we are just getting a glimpse of what he will become.

How many stars did Josh Williams have coming out of high school?

I love Williams, but he's the exception to the rule.

Alabama has been a dynasty for over a decade with tons of 5 star players.

This is a dumb statement.

The coachs' evaluations matter much more. That's why I check to see who else offered. That to me says more than the stars.

Williams had an injury in HS, and still had schollie offers to lesser schools. He wanted LSU enough to walkon.

People who say stars don’t matter, on average, are coping so hard.

Anyone can identify the elite players. No one ever argues that.
This is a straw man.

The services can be all of the above. They rely on a guy’s offer sheet to do their job for them in a lot of cases and they definitely miss more than they should. That said, they are right more than they are wrong.
As Bama, UGA and OSU have shown, the key isn’t landing one 5 star or high 4 star. It’s stacking them. It’s also about building a culture that gets these star player to buy into playing roles within a team concept. The staff also has to consider team needs, roster balance and even recruiting with an eye toward future team leadership into account.
Based on what we’ve seen from Kelly and his staff so far, they seem to get all of the above. Now it’s just about whether they can seal the deals and get the final signatures.
All this said, it’s still worth while to take a few 3 stars who you evaluate as having the potential to grow into great players. They can be depth guys who may blossom into a Josh Williams or a Charles Turner who stay and end up playing a role as experienced vets. This is especially important on the lines where you need a lot of depth and continuity.

This would be the ideal way but schools throw out tons of offers but only a very few are immediately committable. So unless you could ask the coaches or see their boards its kind of difficult to judge that way. With that said if you follow recruiting you can kind of get a feel for whose pushing for who and maybe that is the way to go.

He is better than Will Anderson at this time in his career and Will A was getting Heisman talk this year.
