This is what I remember. Sure there are folks that got in their feelings and say he sucked completely. That happens every year. Go read those Dom McKinley threads pre LSU commitment last season.
The big issue for most that follow recruiting somewhat religiously was his ranking and the justification for it by the services. Every other kid is made to jump through hoops to get the ranking they get. Manning was not held to the same standard. It's the same argument many will/should have for Jahkeem Stewart. No way that kid should be ranked top 50 in the current class with 1 year of hs ball under his belt and only glorified scrimmage to improve his case. Any other kid would be punished for it. If some kids aren't put through the same motions because of name recognition, doesn't that sort of make you question the whole system? If it doesn't, it should.
Being overrated based on name doesn't automatically ensure that the player sucks altogether. It just means he didn't earn the ranking he got. These days folks call that privilege. Funny me, I thought that was discouraged in current times.

Most people, including myself, said he was a good player that likely warranted a 4* rating out of high school and we’d love to have him. We also said being the number one overall recruit was because of his name. His film and measurables in high school weren’t #1 good and he didn’t camp.

I don’t agree nor disagree he’s a great talent. But are you basing this off of one game against a team that would put up a good game against high school teams?

Also, a manning was never coming to LSU. Archie was an Ole Miss Reb and hated LSU.
He blames the Saints for his overrated arse winning nothing during his NFL career, when he was simply not that great to carry a team.
He pushed his kids away from LSU every chance he got. That is fine, and his perogative.
In the end, his grandson only got his absurd recruiting ranking because of his name and nothing more. Kid has talent, but is not a 4-star prospect much less a 5-star #1 player in the country prospect.
He may develop into a great QB as he has the pedigree, but proved at no point including yesterday’s game that he deserves all the praise he was given.
