Not entirely true. The “college part” is a portion of the athletes compensation and without the ties to the schools, FBS football would lose almost all of its fans.

Quit calling it amateur sports. College is now professional sports with unlimited free agency and no salary caps.
IRS should take away the non- profit status of every college sport department as well as all tax write offs for donations to colleges. Call it what it is.

Says the guy posting on a college sports message board. I'm sure you would be mature enough to handle it if college sports went the way of rec leagues.

Here is the problem with your argument. Prior to NIL, the Universities were making tons of Money and coaches like Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Dabo Sweeney, Jimbo Fisher, Les Miles, Ed O, Lincoln Riley, were making loads of Money, as were big time Basketball coaches and coaches in pretty much every other sport. Were you calling for the IRS to take away the non-profit status then?

So what has changed? SCOTUS 9-0 ruled in favor of student-athletes regarding NIL in the Summer of 2021 and how they are getting some compensation.

Now it is still college sports in form, but much of it in substance is like professional sports, I agree, But it pretty much was always that except the payments to players was under the table to select few. Now any athlete at any school in theory can negotiate with a business/corporation etc and profit off their NIL.

So should the SEC schools give back that 54.6 million dollars they received from football?

These players get a free education ,their fault and their fault alone if they don't take advantage of it.
