The inability to retain recruits in this era

Not blaming anyone for this and I’m
Sure all schools are dealing with this on some level but in 2022, lsu signed 15 highschool recruits. Only 2, Harold Perkins and Bo Bordelon are left. In 2023 LSU signed 26 and only have 9 left after 2 seasons. That’s 11 out of 41 juniors and seniors left. I don’t think any professional sports franchise sees this much turnover.

Hate to say it but schools like Texas A&M are experiencing just as much or more turnover then us. Welcome to the new college football.

Most of that 22' coaching staff isnt here and I think their ability to evaluate talent was even worse than their ability to coach it. You just look at what true freshman contributed a good amount this year and I think we got it turned around...But that 23 class was a massive failure and sets most programs back multiple years.

The sad thing is this is an easy fix. Make a signature at a school good for two years. If you commit out of high school, you’re there till after your sophomore year—— if you decide to stay then you’re there for the rest of your time it gives players some flexibility and allows coaches and universities to build a roster. If you graduate early, you can transfer.

That kind of turnover isn’t happening to programs like OSU, Georgia and Texas. What do all of those programs have in common? They’re paying big bucks to retain their classes. We’re gonna have to do the same if we want to prevent recruits from transferring.

quote:I wouldn’t solely put it on an “inability to retain”. There’s also an inability to development, as well as an inability to make a superstar out of someone who just doesn’t have what it takes at this level.

UGA lost a ton last year and are expected to lose 20+ this year. Also, Bama has around 4 left of their 22 class. Times are crazy man

NCAA can make all the rules it wants to make. However, the Courts keep ruling against NCAA rules as restraint of trade and violation of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act. A Court just recently gave a kid extra eligibility based upon his earnings potential, which he may not have if he goes to the NFL or has to get a real job, even though said player has exhausted his NCAA mandated eligibility.

Someone posted this about Alabama on the SEC Rant. It sort of lets you know it isn’t just LSU:
quote:
The 2023 class had 14 top 100 players. Only 9 remain. Between the 2022 and 2023 classes alabama signed 29 top 100 players and only 14 remain. 2 of those 14 have declared for the NFL draft.
5* Edge Keon Keely - remains
5* S Caleb Downs - Ohio State
5* OT Kadyn Proctor - remains
5* Edge Yhonzae Pierre - remains
5* CB Dezz Ricks - Texas A&M
5* DL James Smith - remains
5* RB Justice Haynes - Michigan
4* Edge Qua Russaw - remains
4* WR Jalen Hale - remains
4* CB Jahlil Hurley - Kansas
4* RB Richard Young - remains
4* Edge Jordan Renaud - remains
4* QB Eli Holstein - Pittsburgh
4* OT Wilkin Formby - remains

That's why anyone can win a NC. Too much parity. It's how a team like Notre Dame makes a deep run into the playoffs after losing to NIU of all football teams. Everyone gets knocked off because there's not force dominant like in Saban's era. Anyone thinking BK can't win a NC here is ignorant.

It’s happening to everyone

What I'd like to know is the turnover at the B10 schools. I wonder if they have less and they are able to capitalize on it with stability which SEC programs no longer have.

I’ve been saying it for 2 years now.
Y’all waste your time and energy getting worked up over recruiting class ranking because 75% of the class is gone in 2 years

You are right. Supposedly Revenue Sharing is going to help curb this. Not sure how though.

The average number of players tranfering out for the last two years combined in the SEC has been 43.1(21.55 per season), in the B1G it is 36.6 (18.3 per season) Roughly 3 players per year difference.

this schools are allowed to offer multi year deals. they don’t.
