I didn't read the while thread so SIAP. But he said he's going to Cali to get better coaching than in Abbeville. I don't consider him completely solid but the coach he will be playing for in Cali is friends with our DL coach who is also our best recruiter.
Strange situation indeed
ETA: just read the whole thread. To my knowledge he is still committed. After he moved he did an interview and said he was committed but would take some official visits IIRC. Again, at this point he is still considered a commit. But my personal feeling is that it's pretty soft and I won't be surprised if he decommits it's. The only reason I have any confidence is that he's being coached by our DL coaches buddy

Alonzo followed his AAU basketball coach to Longbeach Cali. Coaches there did not even know he was coming. TAM told him that they would not recruit him in Cali, He went anyway. This AAu coach was also the asst bball coach at Abbeville High and trying to make a name for himself. All he did is cost a kid a full ride to college...
Did his parents also move to california? If not did the coach get some kind of guardianship to take him there? There is something going on here.

His father is not in his life and mother is still in Abbeville. He is living with aau coach who has no guardianship. His mother plans on moving with him in college but not now. Go figure...

You sound pretty close to the situation. In your opinion, will this help or hurt him?

I'm sure he's getting good coaching, but Coach Breaux did personally coach one player who is playing in the NFL now and is a very good coach. I've heard that statement also from the boy's side.

who knows if this will help him. He had a scholly to a D1 school that is about to go to the SEC, he may blow up in Cali and get more offers. But you know how it is when you get on a team that has its players already, he may not even see the field. Alonzo is a great kid but is a bit naive...I hope that tam doesnt give up on him but i think that ship has sailed...

O'Brian is not the AAU coach...
Posted on 8/14/11 at 10:37 am to abovepar
AbovePar, I heard nothing to indicate he's lost his ship from A&M. He even called one of the Mods from Texags to ask if he would would lose his offer if he we to Cali. So it's something he's considered and was told it would not impact his offer. Obviously if he looks around or doesn't stay in touch with the coaches, that could change.

AginAz, I hope that you are correct, but I know tam coaches have said that if he went, they would no longer recruit him. Now, Sherman also told him that his offer would NEVER be withdrawn when he offered it and expected Alonzo to live up to HIS commitment. So maybe they were just trying to talk him out of following an AAU coach cause they have been down that road and know that game.

Word in Abbeville is his Scholly got pulled....not worth much, just talked to a few football players.

If he is calling a website moderator to ask this then that does not bode well for him unfortunately.

Mike Coppage has a subscription article on Scout today saying Dwayne Benjamin has joined Alonzo Williams at the same high school, Long Beach Poly, in California.
That's right, our Louisiana boys are following in the footsteps of Snoop Dog, Tony Gwynn and DeSean Jackson.

Poly transfer comes up big in season opener
In one of the big marquee games of the weekend, Long Beach (Calif.) Poly defeated Sacramento (Calif.) Grant 24-23. The Jackrabbits outgained the Pacers 327-143 and defensive end Alonzo Williams had an impressive debut for Poly.
Williams, a Texas A&M commitment, transferred to Poly from Abbeville (La.) late in the summer and spent a majority of the game in the Pacers backfield. He recorded three sacks for the Jackrabbits and it will be very interesting to see if the Pac-12 schools attempt to recruit the Aggies commit.
"He came out here to live with his uncle," Poly coach Doc Moye said. "We're definitely excited to have him here, he's a monster and will be a great player for us. He can play some tight end too but right now, he's on the defensive line and is almost impossible to block one on one."
