Correct. However, they’re absolutely going to be looking at his film and analytics for the next couple of weeks and I’m sure they’ll have a visit scheduled as soon as June 1st gets here.

Yep. That is also why guys like this announce so early, so folks know they will be entering and can look at what they offer.

That guy doesn’t look like a non-athlete. He hit .384 as a freshman in a solid league. I don’t think that’s the same as taking a Carraway, Simpson, or Yorke.

A positionless non-athlete who sells out for power and swings and misses a ton. This is the exact type of player Jay was referencing this year when he said we went after the wrong type of guys in the portal.

It can be hard to differentiate between players from G5 and lower level competition schools.

Dickinson at Utah Valley was like .367, 18 HRs, and 32 SBs.

Simpson at High Point was .389, 22 HRs, 24 2B, 14 SBs.

I thought Simpson might be a big time addition last year. It's hard to say how guys will do when they take a big jump in competition.

FWIW, it's nice when you can bring in an SEC guy like Stanny or Holman as their production basically replicates.

I also think the ACC translates well.

He struck out 30% of the time in conference in the Sunbelt. He was 1 for 10 with 6 Ks against Southern Miss, which is one of the closest approximations of SEC level pitching you're going to get in the Sunbelt. And this was in the last series of the year, not early in the year before he became a regular starter.

The portal does not open for more than a week, so I assume they meant planning to hit the portal.

That's a distinction without a difference.

It doesn't matter if the portal is open or not. If you say you are entering the portal, you are basically in the portal.

What's his natural position catcher? If he is, does he have a good glove? I don't see them snagging a C without them having a really good glove or either Bide/Serna leave unexpectedly.

I don’t know that either of those guys are good enough to play catcher at this or any other level. Hopefully Jay can get them to switch positions and we can bring in someone much more capable. Serna may improve, but arrambide has been here for 2yrs and the light still hasn’t come on defensively.

The sunbelt is likely to have 4/5 NCAA tourney teams

Sounds like a 3B option.

Because he's big and strong? Is that seriously all you think goes into playing third?

Do you think the swing and miss is fixable though? I haven’t seen any film on him at all, so was wondering if you have. Could it possibly be that he was the only hitter on his team that was dead last in the conference? Is there potential he’s much better when he’s protected in a lineup with guys like Braun, Serna and Arambide?

That goes back to when the kid was in high school, can’t tell yet if we’re actually looking at him now
when it was only Jordan and not Tutko/Simpson/LSUbsbRecruit I had a feeling.

As you’ve said elsewhere in this thread, I don’t know how many positionless high swing and miss guys from the Sunbelt we need.

I looked last night, so could be misremembering, but I think he did pretty well against the top of their league.

ETA: appears I was wrong re: production against top of the conference.

couple thoughts on this. First, if you look at his high school highlights on Twitter, he’s got kind of an unorthodox swing where he shifts his weight earlier than most.

Second, it’s very difficult to estimate how a swing adjustment will translate to a higher level. We tried it with Yorke and it failed miserably.

He seems to be a high ceiling low floor player. If you take him, you need a very good backup plan. Luckily, there tend to be more of those in the corner outfield department. Still, that’s going to be a crapshoot given you’re looking for power at those positions.

Looks like he's been listed as a "C/OF" since he was a sophomore in high school, which tells me defense is not a priority for him.

After what we all watched this year, I hope we don't go this route. We need players who can field their position as well. Maybe get him here as a DH, though I'm not even sure he'd be a full time DH unless they move either Serna or Arrambide to 1st.

This seems like the type of player we went after last year and it didn't work out. Not saying he wouldn't work out, just saying we can't just look at his offensive numbers and think it's someone we should try and get. I'd imagine Jay feels the same way after this season.

I agree. I don’t think LSU will be interested in position less players unless they have unreal power that will translate.

I don’t know anything about this guy though.

LSU will be interested in weekend arms first and foremost. Pitching and defense are still the most important ingredients to championships

They do if they are smart. There are no rules prohibiting contacting their NIL agents, though.
