With how desperate we are at DT and to get him back he would make more money coming back to school. He's a third rounder at best, and there's no way he wouldn't make more than 3rd round money at LSU. Also the reward would be to have a full season healthy and move up draft boards next year. Or, worst case scenario, you are drafted the same spot you would this year with a lot more money in your pocket.

The NFL rookie minimum salary per annum in 2024 is $795k plus 50% of the signing bonus in the first year. In 2023 the last pick of the 3rd round got a signing bonus of $903k and the first pick of the third round got a signing bonus of $1.26 million.

If Wingo is the last pick of the third round he would get roughly $795k +$401.5k in money for the year or $1,196,610.00. You really think that a DT will command that amount in NIL?

the last pick of the third round in 2023 received a contract totaling $5.366 million.

ETA: Math got me. Correction 50% of signing bonus would be $451.5k. Or 795,000+451,610=$1,246,610. Oh well, only 50 grand off in my OP.

Yes let’s tell Wingo to give up his dreams and risk injury because y’all want us to have a little more depth at DT next year.

With the exception of the WNBA and day 3 MLB picks, NIL cannot compete with pro sports.

If it’s about money, he should go pro.

last pick in the 3rd round had a 964k salary and 857k signing bonus.

so we have close to 2 million for Mekhi?

That is no where near worst case scenario.

Even if this were true, by returning he would delay his second NFL contract by a year. And that is more impactful than any other consideration in your post.

Who was this player? Are all bonuses created by draft spot? Or is it different depending on the team and player and what they decide to pay for a particular player? I think a more accurate number would be average contract total of a last pick of the third round over the last 5 drafts.

it’s the rookie cap it’s pretty much set. If anything it may have gone up.

I think it’s just how much is guaranteed is up for negotiation.
