Some basketball recruiting rumblings

Just wanted to give an update on where we're at with the recruits we're battling for. Just note that we're about a month out from early signing day so we should get some news soon. All this info is coming from on3 and 247 articles and some other valid sources on X(Twitter). I put stars next to the players I think LSU has the best chance to land:
5 Star C Derik Queen LINK- Top 3 seem to be Indiana, Maryland, and LSU. Sounds like we did a good job on hosting him for our visit and we're a legitimate contender. He takes visits to Maryland and Houston this month so we should hear more soon.
4 Star F Rakease Passmore LINK - It was a rumor that Passmore's visit to LSU was eye opening and he was close to committing to LSU right after the visit, however Kansas has gotten really involved in his recruitment in the past month. He visits Kansas this weekend and is commiting next Wednesday. Right now, the leader is probably Kansas.
*4 Star G Vyctorius Miller LINK - Vyc Miller has family ties in Louisiana and his connections with LSU run deep. He has made it clear he wants to commit somewhere before early signing day. This seems like another situation like Robert Miller's where the family ties puts LSU at #1 in his recruitment. We should hear from him very soon.
*4 Star G Gicarri Harris LINK - Gicarri is nearing a decision in the coming week. He has been keeping his recruitment close to the vest but LSU is definitely somewhere near the top and his visit here went well. It might be a Purdue/LSU battle. We'll just have to see in the coming week.
Highly Unlikely:
4 Star Guard Curtis Givens seems to be a Memphis lock although LSU has kept in contact with him. He decides Saturday.
4 Star Pharoah Compton just cancelled his LSU visit and might reschedule, but he doesn't seem very interested.
4 Star Forward Mikey Lewis did not visit on Sept. 22 for some reason, so he most likely won't be in the class.
4 Star Forward Nic Codie- LSU might still be a player for Codie, but Houston seems to be the favorite here.
With all the intel I've seen I think LSU's most probable outcome for the '24 class is finishing with Robert Miller, Gicarri Harris, and Vyctorius Miller, and a few more three star recruits that McMahon likes. That would probably put us somewhere in the top 20 in terms of class rankings.

So, in other words, we coming up short?

Hate to be the bearer of bad news here, but Derik Queen is Indiana bound.

Disappointing. Sounds like a lot of interest from good prospects but not closing the deal

One huge problem with recruiting is Louisiana High School Basketball, doesn't have many SEC caliber recruits.

They all play football

If anything, Maryland has been in the lead all along. That would be my prediction for Queen but you never know

First, great work. Especially given it is near impossible to find readily available information on LSU basketball recruiting.
It's at least good to see LSU in the mix. Realistically, probably the best we can hope for is LSU lands 1 or 2 top 100 players (already have one). Anything more than that is great.
Luckily, the transfer recruiting is every bit as important, if not MORE in college basketball. It's still important to land good HS recruiting classes. But the reality is most of those guys won't stay on the roster more than 1-2 years. That's not just an LSU "problem", but a college basketball problem. Thus, if a team is going to win they are going to do so by being successful in the portal. And with the nature of basketball having so few players compared to sports like football and baseball, a few good recruits and 3-5 great transfers can COMPLETELY change the fortunes of a team in just a single year.

You get the idea. When you are on essentially the death penalty its hard to get phenom basketball players

Excellent work on the list. I have been very impressed by the ins the staff has managed even though 10 of the previous 12 months of the recruiting cycle were under the shadow of unknown sanctions. It really bodes well for the 2025 class and beyond.

Did they ever replace the asst coach that just left for the NBA??

Losing out to Kansas or Indiana is not surprising

It should be more important to McMahon. High school recruiting will be an uphill battle for us until we get out the shitter.

We've had coaches in the past here (and I don't mean just Wade), who have beaten out blue bloods for players before, and it's not as rare of an occurrence as you'd think.
A lot of the younger fans don't realize that LSU is top ten all time in signing Parade/McDonald's All Americans. There was about a 15 year period here where Dale went toe to toe with, and WON recruiting battles over college basketball royalty, regularly. Wade was starting to have early success with that also, and his tenure never had the chance to get established. Hell, Johnny signed a few himself, as EMBARRASSING as his tenure was.
The point of this is, most posters here think LSU can't sign these great players. With the right guy (and staff) here, we sure can. LSU is a HUGE brand name in both major sports among young athletes. NATIONWIDE.

Well Dale got John Williams out of LA(Crenshaw) and Jamie Brandon out of Chicago(King), so it's possible to hook the Big Fish out of the SEC region.

Givens picks Tigers, . LSU Tigers.
Posted on 10/7/23 at 5:21 pm to LSUBALLER
Givens is a great addition. McMahon doing a great job on the trail apparently

He also got Macklin out of Louisville, Ice Reynolds out of NYC, Stanley Roberts out of S Carolina. And more. This isn't some wasteland like some people here think. We've always gotten good players, it's always been a coaching issue when we weren't winning.
