Defensive Back 24 66.7% 37.5%
Defensive Line 38 50.0% 34.2%

DBs and DLs are the hardest to predict anyway, 1 in 2 gets drafted yet 1 in 3 is retained on an NFL roster.

For our two this year, injuries and studs playing ahead of him for Loston, for Freak whoever advised him to turn pro and not come back for his senior season.

If your sophomore year is better than your junior year and it isn't due to injury or lack of playing time, I don't know what or who in their right mind would steer a player to going pro.

Some kids just naturally peak in talent in high school. Some come into college in a 16 year old body. Sometimes the less mature bodied 3 or 4 stars are able to catch up to the higher calliber 5's in college once their bodies fully mature.

Also could be individual work ethic.

I would only put about 1% of blame on coaches development. And i reaally think they dont have an effect.

"blame"?

I "blame" the guys that ranked them 5 stars.

Freak was commonly compared to a 35 year old looking NFL player while in HS.

Never occurred to you that maybe, just maybe, he peaked physically at 18/19 years old?

In regards to Freak I am reminded of a comment by Mike D. on WWL. He said Freak was just too nice of a guy, he didn't have a mean streak in him on or off the field.

Probably the same reason five star players who were first round draft choices don't make it. Attitude, injuries, and just give me the money. Calling JR.

Was not a five star.

Its because the player just wasn't good enough. Or they are told by every one how good they are, they don't put in the necessary work to get better.

You are assuming the "experts" for the rating services do their homework. Quite often they fall too much in love with height/forty yard dash measureables.

Do remember LF looks like a 30 year old man before he has even entered college. That is why i believe he will have such a big impact as a freshmen. He is mature enough already

You can't control work ethic and thats why most 5 stars don't work out for us. They tore it up in highschool with minimal effort but once they get to college women, drugs, partying distracts even the best players. I knew some football players and some of them are just terrible. Lazy and Hardcore drug addicts. Not saying Loston or Freak were but it wouldn't have surprised me

You don't blame anyone. Those kids didn't give themselves a 5*. You can't blame the coaches because we don't see what happens day to day. You can't blame recruiting services because they evaluate on high school production, not 4 years into the future.

Sometimes, shite just doesn't work out.

Can't necessarily place blame on anyone.

Some guys are drafted because of potential. Some guys are NOT drafted because they've maxed out already.

Scouts and execs look at some of these guys and think, "I wonder what he could be?" ANd they draft them.

I think, you look at 2 or 3 years of tape on some guys and say, "this is who/what he is".

We ARE talking about recruiting services that have dweebs doing talent evaluations. Many of which probably didn't play football past JV/Varsity level in HS.

FA vs. 3rd or 4th round is not as big a deal anymore:

quote:

Everyone brings up the money and 1st and 2nd round picks get paid well, but the new CBA changed the rules altogether. There is less than a $100,000 difference between a 3rd/4th round pick and a free agent.

Lets face it, recruiting high school kids and drafting college players is very far from an exact science.
