quote:What? How is Shon Coleman a bust?
Five stars can be complete busts even if they and the coaches work really hard. Russell Shepard, Shon Coleman, Chris Galippo, Jeff Schweiger, Marcus Vick, Ben Olsen, Ryan Rerriloux... all these guys were busts and for lots of different reasons. Some worked hard and did the right things and simply were never successful, others were injured, others had bad attitudes.
The guy is a redshirt sophomore that had to sit out a couple of years due to cancer. He beat the cancer, has worked his arse off to get back to playing shape, and is now in line to start at left tackle for a top 5 team. It's not like he failed to live up to the hype, did something stupid off the field, got arrested or anything like that.

Yeah, that's pretty dumb calling him a bust.

It's kind of ironic if you look at the last few years. Between Scout and Rivals rankings, LSU has had 15 5* recruited by Miles since 2005 and through 2011.
Of those 15, 9 5*'s off the top of my head went undrafted. That is 60% of the 5 stars signed by LSU from 2005-2011.
These are:
Perrilloux
Keiland Williams
Eugene
Toliver
Shepard
Ford
Johnson
Loston
Chris Davenport (Finished up career at Tulane)
6 5*'s that got drafted:
Woods (2006 - 4th round)
Chad Jones (2007 - 3rd Round)
PP7 (2008 - 1st Round)
Randle (2009 - 2nd Round)
Ware (2010 - 6th Round)
Landry (2011 - 2nd Round)
So out of 15 5*'s signed by LSU in that time, LSU has had only 1 go in the 1st round, and 2 in the late 2nd.The rest were 3rd, 4th or 6th rounders.
Looking at it, one would be shocked by such horrible numbers, but then looking at LSU's development of some less heralded high schoolers into first rounders is pretty impressive as well.
I'd be interested to see how this pans out for other schools.

Sometimes 5* just means a kid matured early. College ready in HS, but never goes beyond that.

Loston was drafted due to concussion issues primarily. I stillsdon't have a clear answer on what happen to Johnson.(Besides the obvious failed drug test)

I think these kids get so hyped coming out of high school, maybe gained a certain attitude and false hype about themselves because of it, that they just look past the college level and automatically think that they will be NFL players. 3 star player seem to come in to college with a chip on their shoulders and something to prove, whereas 5 star kids think they are stars already. ??

Yeah, that's pretty dumb calling him a bust.
Now if we want to call some busts out, call Trovon Reed, Christian Westerman, Kiehl Frazier, Erique Florence, DeAngelo Benton, Jake Holland, Jonathan Rose, and some more out from recent Auburn classes. They deserve it. I'm giving Trovon Reed one more year since he moved to cornerback, though. He has supposedly worked his way into the rotation, but I doubt he ever lives up to the 5 star hype.

Do remember LF looks like a 30 year old man before he has even entered college. That is why i believe he will have such a big impact as a freshmen. He is mature enough already
At the RB stage, that's different. He already has the size, speed, and power to play in the NFL. He just needs to do the little things like learn pass protection, develop even more his already great receiving hands, and mature mentally (that's something that all players need regardless of position).
Also let me say this, people need to realize that giving him a large amount of carries will not hinder his future. Some of the best RBs had heavy college workloads then played 10-13 years in the NFL putting up great stats.

Loston gets exposed in coverage and that was obvious, "freak" turned to "fizzle" and can't hold up at the point of contact, guess you can say he's actually a bit soft!

Well, you blame three people:
1. The player
2. The player
3. and.............The player.
Ron Brooks, James Wright. They weren't five stars, but these guys didn't play or get exposed as much as most of our drafted players. Both got drafted because they were good enough to play in the NFL. If you're good enough, you get drafted.

A look into the future at the 5 star players we missed this year
Cam R
Speedy
Willis
Brown
Right now no one can guarantee for certain which of the 4 will start in the NFL
Lets watch them play college ball and see where they get drafted

If someone already hadn't, I was coming to post exactly what you just did to set the record straight about Coleman.

Good point, furthermore, Alfred blue, a Rb got drafted. Someone on this board said that rbs aren't coveted anymore.
You could assume that dts are one of the most coveted positions in the nfl and still, no one took a flyer on *****anthony Johnson but drafted an injured ****Rb.
Interesting.
