People like Ruffin make all Louisianians look backwards. This is a global society and this guy is talking about kids staying in their home state?! FOH! Make Louisiana a better state to live in and more kids will stay.

"I and idiot......"

- Ruffin Rodrigue

Ruffin's comments play to the fan base and are aimed at the mob mentality.

So if an out of state recruit comes to LSU, does really well, gets his degree but doesn't make the NFL, the boosters won't hook the brother up.

I think Ruffin is right on here. I wouldn't " hook a brother up"

What an insanely closed minded and myopic view of things. People move around now, it happens. If you're talented at something people will still want you. The idea of a state blackballing some young guy because he went somewhere else for college is retarded.

Yea.. Warrick Dunn is a prime example

Warrick Dunn actually made it in the NFL which was one of the OP's caveats. Also, he runs a foundation that helps others. This is the exception. The question is without the NFL, would he have the foundation?

Exactly. Warrick is a terrible example. He gives to the Baton Rouge community, we as a community don't give him anything. A better example would be someone like Brock Berlin or Jamie Spencer. I'd like to know where those two guys are living and what kind of "help" they've gotten from LA post college.

Doesn't really pertain to this thread, because the dude is probably flush with $$$, but David Delucci(sp) a BR CHS alum had a real good MLB career and you hardly ever hear his name mentioned. I guess it's because he went to Ole Miss.

Will Clark doesn't get much love either. Dude sure does talk funny.

Only as it pertains to locally owned businesses by those actively supporting lsu football.

understand that the big business world does not revolve around lsu football and many of those businesses operate in LA.

While I like Ruffin and see him show great entrepreneurial spirit, the majority of businesses don't think like his Mockler spring board.

He's more wrong than right.....

oh, and some places offer a better place to live than "home". Much of LA sucks for life.

Skimmed some of the comments... not reading them all. My opinion is that a bunch here don't understand.

The point is not that if you go out of state you won't find a job. The point is doors are opened by being a college football player. FACT! There are more LSU fans in La. than in any other state. Those helping you because you are a former LSU player mostly are in La.!

Couple that with the fact that more people in La. are happy and love the La. culture than most people in other states. This isn't me making that up that has been researched and documentaries made on it that covered the entire world, not just the USA.

So add the two together and it points out that IF you fit that mold it would be in your best interest to stay in state for college ball.

There are exceptions, there are more than a few exceptions... there are many. But the bias is obviously there and something a kid should consider if he might want to live close to where he grew up.

So if some peoples logic is correct, you would hire Jordan Jefferson before Peyton Manning. That is smart. Thanks for clearing that up.

Are you following the conversation? Peyton was successful in the NFL. So I'm pretty sure he's not looking for a sales job in LA...

I would venture to say 4 out of 5 posters taking issue with the premise of this thread enjoy recreational marijuana, belong to an organization that is saving something, and would be perfectly happy in a world with no states, no countries, and one monetary unit.

And just the thought of what is being mentioned irks them to the point of attacking everything around the actual point being made.

And, furthermore, you could more than likely give each of them a perfect example of what Ruffin is saying from their own high school within the last 30 years.

I know I could spend all day defending what he is saying with prime examples of those who stayed, and those who went elsewhere, even with NFL experience.

T-Bob fricking Hebert does morning radio in new orleans. Do you think he would have that gig had he played for Ole Miss regardless of who his dad is!?!?!

No I would not hire Payton on principle. Don't know if Jefferson is qualified.

I am not particularly a LSU fan (don’t be confused by my handle. A friend who is a LSU fan introduced me to Tigerdroppings thus the name). I have not posted much (for some that seems to be a criterion for posting and I don’t care what you think or say.

I used to enjoy reading the board for real information, but now it is nothing but bickering and wisecrack comments. It has become totally useless.

Most of you guys are idiots. I think half of you are not really LSU fans. I think a huge number of you don’t know the real world or anything about college sports. Most of you just want to criticize what someone says or ridicule a poster and not offer any information or add anything to the conversation.

You criticize our coaches (DB coach, line coach), our players (most recently a true freshman quarter back in his first start comparing him to red shirt freshmen who have started games and practiced with the first team), make comments about recruits parents (most memorable someone’s mother) and expect recruits to come to LSU. Saban was right LSU people never have any thing positive only negative.

But on the jobs for players leaving the state, Ruffin was right. I do business all over the country. It is not just athletes. A&M oil executives hire A&M grads, Walmart execs hire Arkansas grads to work in management (no comment about clerks or people working at stores), a Harvard grad will hire a Harvard grad. This is true even if they did not play sports.

Do you really believe Landon Collins girlfriend’s mother would still be working for a school board in Alabama, Sean Tuohy’s wife going to let him hire an ex Tennessee player to work at one of his Taco Bells or an Auburn Alum is going to hire a Bama player.

Maybe that’s what’s wrong with LSU recruiting and LSU in general, there is no loyalty. Kids need to know you turn your back on LSU don’t look for help later. People need to think and let it be known, if they have to choose between a LSU grad and someone else, I am picking the LSU grad. I know LSU grads have a great education, character and will work.

Anyone who says anything else or cites any statistics is not a LSU fan and not true Louisianan.

Really who would a plant manager or customer in Louisiana or LSU grad rather go to lunch or play golf with, Jarvis Landry or Julio Jones. I know there are exceptions for Super Bowl rings and pros from you city, but they better not be around the week of and after LSU Bama.

He basically said if you want to get out of the state thats your right but you're not going to be able to come back and get a job. You better not get hurt and you better make it in the NFL (which stands for not for long) because you can't come back thats the way it is.

I fully understand that some kids want to go OOS...but when they commit their talents to beating LSU on a yearly basis then they have crossed a line that can't, for many, be erased. sucks...but that's the way it is.
