I upvoted you khill. My thoughts exactly. Football and now basketball (always indoors) going on all around the country and that’s ok, but we’re catching heat for wanting to have fans in the PMAC?

I think all the recruiting threads will be back at the top after the end of the football signing period.

I’m gonna avoid the COVID talk and stick to enjoying sports and such. Ignore what people are posting on social media. Let’s enjoy this season and hope they have a great year

I would like to think that those down votes were for the complainers against LSU packing the PMAC and not your post. These complainers live to be critical of LSU.

This has nothing to do with the meets, but now that ACK isn’t involved with the program anymore… I wonder if Ashleigh Gnat took over the leotard designs. Wasn’t she the one who designed the Mardi Gras Leo?

Just saw some ga routines from tonight and they do not look good. Very unconditioned. Michigan on the other hand looks great. 2 programs definitely going in different directions. I think ga should fire ckc after this season.

AUGH!!! Like an idiot - i wasn’t paying attention at the 1/2 time portion of the lady tigers basketball game. Imagine my surprise when i do look back to see Jay talking lineups for tomorrow. He said to expect to see Sami in the AA (like wow!!) and to not expect Aleah tomorrow night. But that’s literally all i caught!! Anyone see any more of it that can comment on what he said?

Edited: I put a note below, he was talking about alyona but they were showing video of Sami

Really, Sami in AA? I thought we all agreed the super seniors needed to stick to specialties. There seems to be a better use of this meet as far as depth is concerned than to use Sami on floor.

Crisis adverted... I rewatched the interview this morning (no idea why I could not rewind last night) but he was saying Alyona will be in the AA tonight... I told y'all i was 1/2 listening. No Aleah tonight and KJ on two events today.

Sorry for any concerns!! LOL - I was hoping someone else has seen it.

Watching the interview with Jay now and he said he considered having Christina anchor beam but decided against her and is instead thinking about having Bridget anchor. I really, really believe Bridget should be leading off (really the only routine you don't have to worry about getting a steady hit from) and putting Christina last so she can go 9.95 every time (even 10).

Also interesting to see Jay talk about his concern that there isn't an "alpha" or real leader setting the tone on this team. Who do you all see potentially stepping up to that role this year (the way Gnat did in 2016 and 2017)?

They need to put the best gymnast/routine to anchor each event. Dean needs to stay in the middle of the beam lineup. Its a very good routine that is super steady but its also a routine that isn't gonna score 9.95's or 10s either. Moving her to anchor would not make a lot of sense to me. She is needed to stabilize the middle of the lineup, god forbid something happens at the beginning.

I could see going the Leah clapper route with either of those 2 to get them high scores. I also would Bridget at top and move bean down the lineup. Also what they need to do with kiya on ub. Oh if only Jay got on tigerrant! Lol

Dumb question, but what are the levels of ranking with gym athletes? Almost every meet me and the wife wonder how these girls are ranked. Elite, premiere, us national, us jr nationals. There's so many levels of competition.

You watch the olympics and its like how in the world does a 16 year old Lauri Hernandez even make the team Like you have middle school kids on the olympic radar.

So, first - how do we get this one back stickied - the other recruiting ones are re-stickied now. Justice for gymnastics, lol!

Also, thank goodness OP who posted about Sami doing AA was mistaken, because I was not going to be happy about that! She needs to be doing bars only. I suppose the talk of Christina/Bridget anchoring means Reagan probably isn't competing. I think that is for the best if consistency isn't there due to her injuries.

As for a leader...hmm. I would have thoughts that's at least 75% of the reason most of those seniors returned (or why Jay wanted them to) - to provide some leadership since the only "real" senior is Dantonio. I know she is a team favorite, but since she doesn't compete, I think it would be difficult for her to be a true leader of the younger girls. I do hope this team can settle in - they have the talent I think to be special this year and they looked great at Gym 101.

So ready to be back in action!

In college, everyone is on the same playing field. Doesn’t matter if you are a former elite or a level 10: everyone is scored the same and rewarded based on their consistency and execution over the difficulty of the skills. Difficulty adds bonus points, but at the end of the day, everyone, if they have all the required skills in their routines, is scored out of a 10.0 (aside from vault which has different max scores depending on which vault a gymnast does). When it comes to the elite world (Olympic and World Championship level) At least in the United States, gymnasts have to qualify for that level of competition by doing a qualifier and showing compulsory (proof of mastery of all the required basic skills that make up a routine) and optional (additional high level skills that you have learned and plan to compete) skills [OTHERS WHO ARE MORE KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT THE SPORT THAN ME PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I’M WRONG ABOUT THIS OR MISSING SOMETHING]. From there, you need to go to a series of Championship meets within the states in order to qualify for the US Championship meet, which qualifies you for the Olympic Trials. After the trials, the selection committee chooses who will represent the US at the olympics based on the results of the previous meets. That’s why someone like Laurie Hernandez at 16 got to represent the USA in Rio. While elite gymnasts tend to be at their peak when they’re 16-18 in terms of skill level and health, age is not the only thing that determines who qualifies, hence why it is so competitive in this country to get to the Olympics and why not everyone even gets the opportunity to qualify

As far as the leader position on the team goes, while yes the covid seniors do a great job (for the most part) of physically filling the role of “go in the gym- get the work done- go out there on meet day and compete”, but none of the seniors, D’Antonio included, really have the vocal leadership type personality we’ve seen in previous years from someone like Bugs, Myia Hambrick (who lead vocally in a different, quieter than Bugs type of way but was still effective), McKenna Kelley, Sarah Finnegan, Lexie Priessman, Kennedi Edney or Ruby Harrold. Even though she didn’t compete as much over the years, I feel like even Olivia Gunter even had that same type of vocal leadership the team needs/needed/is looking for this year just based on her sideline presence. Not to say this years seniors aren’t capable of it, I just don’t think that is their personality type and that is ok.

With that being said, from what I’ve seen the last couple seasons, both with regards to in the gym at practices and on the sidelines at meets, I see Kai Rivers stepping into that role. She’s a team favorite, hard working, is a fighter and a competitor but also has the energy and the fighting spirit the team needs that I think Jay is looking for. Yes she may be a junior who took last year off due to an injury but even though she was sidelined last year, she still was the vocal leader her teammates needed, from the pre routine pep talks, to the post routine celebrations (both as a competitor her freshman year and on the sidelines last year). Plus after being out last year, we all could see at Gym 101 how hungry she is to be back out there and give her very best for the team week after week both on the sidelines as a teammate and while she’s competing, so we can bring home that national title

Aleah wasn’t introduced. Wondering if she’s sick or something.
