Can you add the incoming freshman class of 2020 which will fill out the roster. They have 8 returning scholarship gymnasts , right? Is there still an available one for Rachel Dickson if they can convince her to come.

Dickson would be an incredible transfer addition to this team. She certainly knows the environment she would compete in at the PMAC. It seems if she is leaving for one final season why not go to a program which has a shot at the title and the fan base would embrace you. Tell her to ask Cole Tracy about that.

Thank you for the new thread. Much smaller and easier to navigate ;-)
Can you add a "2020 roster management post" to illuminate the potential "scholarship crunch" or transfers due to this virus?

Is anyone else hearing the 'smoke" that Dickson may be headed to Michigan?

What I do know is that only 18 girls can fit on their charter plane for travel meets. Next year, the team will have 21 girls total plus their two boy managers, plus coaches, meaning 3 girls will have to stay home for every travel meet. Just based on that, the question here is more about who will be forced to stay home from away meets rather than who’s going. IF LSU adds Rachel Dickson to the roster, that’s 4 girls that are forced to stay home. As much as she would be a great addition to the team, I don’t think the team has room for her and is better off giving the open scholarship to someone like Sarah Edwards who’s competed two events for the team consistently all 3 years she’s been there. I know that Sierra Ballard is Jay’s niece so as co-head coach it’s highly unlikely he will let DD have her stay home for travel meets due to the familial relationship and conflict that could insight.

I also know that Rachel changes her Instagram bio to now say UGA Gymnastics Alum. With all this time in quarantine due to COVID-19, it’s also entirely possible that she’s still deciding if she wants to take a 5th year or be done entirely with the sport since she’s been in the transfer portal since the beginning of March. If she doesn’t announce something soon, or more details about where she’s potentially transferring don’t surface soon, it’s unlikely that anyone will pick her up at this point other than LIU who’s still look to fill roster spots. I’m not trying to be negative here. Just laying out all the facts

I don't know about the new girls coming in but with what I've seen last yr. I don't know how you turn Rachel Dickeson down. She is very finished and that's what we lacked last yr.

Simply put: we don’t have room for her. If we add her to the roster, who do you suggest we keep home from away meets because as I said before, not everyone can go. She’s better off on a team with more roster spots where’s she’s guaranteed a scholarship and competing in the AA every week especially if she wants to make the most of her 5th year

Oh I get your point and I don't really know how cutthroat NCAA gymnastics are and I'm not going to bash anyone on here but she would definitely be an upgrade over some of our girls on the roster now. And of course that's just my opinion.

I didn’t mean for my point to sound so negative. I would love to have her at LSU and think she would make a great addition to the team. I just don’t see how we’d be able to accommodate a spot for her with an already massive squad

They use the same planes that other LSU sports like basketball and softball use and all of those have 50 and 70 seats. They use Elite Airways which fly CRJ 200 and 700 models. If you click this LINK, they actually have a picture of the LSU softball team getting on one of their planes.

You probably are referencing the SEC travel limits. I don't know what those are for gymnastics, but for softball the limit is 22 players and all of those plus coaches, managers, and staff fit in the plane.

I’m actually referencing the DD Breaux Travel Limits. Other teams with the same amount or more girls on their roster have been seen to being everyone to travel meets where as DD CHOOSES to leave girls home is there’s more than 18 girls on the roster

I get what your saying its starting to sound like UCLA! I obviously don't know as much as yall. I just go by the eye test. DD is running out of time and may start pressing soon.

I actually just looked it up and found that on the official SEC website, there is a travel meet guideline that says only 18 athletes are allowed to travel and dress for a gymnastics meet

if Dickson were to transfer, wouldn't she need to sit a year? Same question goes for Bailey..

Bailey and Rachel both have a redshirt year available to them since they didn’t compete this year so they’re both eligible to compete immediately if Rachel transfers within conference and same to Bailey since she’s now attending Auburn

Dickson may very ell have graduated since she is entering her fifth year. If so she is eligible immediately.

Its doubtful spots on the travel squad would be a factor in whether she is recruited. If there are places in the rotation that she would likely be a better fit they would bump someone from travel if necessary. Most sports have hos limitations and athletes don't travel to all away contests. Unless there are injury issues like last season there are likely 4 to 5 walkon gymnasts who are not likely to perform unless there is an emergency. Those travel spots can be alternated each trip when necessary. At their elite status LSU needs to focus on winning that elusive national championship and anyone who can advance that objective should be utilized in the best way possible.

No... they normally charter a plane that has 29 to 30 seats. They only use a 50 person plane during post season when you have extra Atletic department people like SID's that also join the team

That was a picture from going to nationals. As I said On a regular trip that is not what they use. I actually remember the plane in the picture. It was quite nice. every seat was the size of a 1st class passenger plane seat. the most comfortable flight I've ever taken
