Yes, recruiting is still very important. One of the main reasons for Kiffin’s job change is that he didn’t want to have to rely on roster building via the portal. As Saban said, the portal should supplement your roster. Having said that. It’s ok if this recruiting class is not elite. You have to expect that with a coaching change right before signing period when most of the staff isn’t set yet. If next year’s class isn’t top 5, then we can start to worry.

Justin Jefferson was a 2 star recruit
Cordale Flott was a 3 star
Cade York was a 2 star
Patrick Queen was a 3 star
Lloyd Cushenberry was a 3 star


Obviously their classes had a massive amount of 4/5 star recruits to fill out the roster. Just saying all that glitters is not gold.

Idiots on here acting like Lane is screwing up this recruiting cycle might be the dumbest take in the history of this board. It is mine boggling.

Most likely, he arrived not even knowing who was committed and likely had never spoken to almost all of them.

Yet, these idiots are freaking out thinking he was supposed to come here and not only sign all of these players (which almost never happens anyway because of flips) but he was also supposed to land any and every player his team called that were not even being recruited by LSU.

No coach's 1st class is really their class anyway. Nearly impossible to come in on Sunday and lock down a homerun class by Friday. Very excited to watch the portal class and then the 2027 class shape up.

Furthermore, 6 of the last 8, starting with Mayfield, Murray, Burrows, Williams, Daniels and Hunter, iirc, were transfers. (Devonta Smith & Bryce Young, were grassroots guys, I believe.)
