Offensive Line Discussion

Guys enter the portal for a whole host of reasons. But I have never seen anything like what is going on with our offensive line. Six guys!
Here are some reasons they could be portaling:
1. They have received feedback that they are unlikely to get meaningful playing time under Kiffin. Or, they are self-aware and looking for a new home where they will actually play.
2. They are testing the waters to see if they can get more NIL elsewhere, hoping to use that to leverage LSU for more money.
3. They have a strange loyalty to Brad Davis (or other coaches not retained) and either want out or want Kiffin to know they are upset.
4. They genuinely think they are elite and want to get paid / start elsewhere. (E.g., Lance Heard)
I do not believe any of these guys are in bucket 4. This may have been the worst offensive line of the 21st century. So I’m curious which bucket yall think Adams, Chester, Curne, Echols, Mubenga and Williams are in.

Or they know a football team needs O lineman so maybe they figure they’ll get paid to stay if they jump in the portal.

Thinking some Ole Miss guys are going to be looking for a promotion in a few days

How could the staff know what they have to work with along with proper coaching? Most of these guys were highly rated out of HS.

I’m betting Kiffin feels like all of these guys are overpaid compared to his Oline at Ole Miss and told their agents he intends to re-evaluate their NIL. Of course they’re not happy and want to test the waters with the portal. We’ll see how it all shakes out.

Yes they were. That said, offensive line recruiting ratings (more than any other position) are based on:
First, Measurables
Second, Measurables
Third, Measurables
Fourth, Measurables
And finally, Talent

5. They're being told that they would get less in NIL/ compensation than they'd gotten this year/ were expecting in 2026.
I think this happened with CJ Daniels to some extent last year.

This
And that there will be open competition.
They aren’t processing every OL lol

5. Wolford has been given carte blanche? One of those power of the enlightened few deals where nobody gets to stand in his way? If you’re Joe Bugel and built the mid-80’s Redskins O-line then knock yourself out, but Wolford is what exactly?

That suck and they need to look else where. They were probably overrated by recruiting services and just didn’t developed.

Makes no sense. How do you know how good they can be with different coaching/development? Brad Davis was supposedly the problem. They don’t all suck. Some of these guys were offered by Bama and Texas. As of yesterday, Curne was the highest rated offensive lineman in the portal.

D. J. Chester in the portal is a good thing.

They are the reason Lane Kiffin is the LSU coach. If they could have played at even a Sunbelt level, BK never would have been fired.

Word is out that LSU is offering top dollar for o-lineman to to transfer in.

I’m hoping it was LK and the new OL coach encouraging them all to go elsewhere because of what they saw on film and what the previous hack job did to them.
That would also mean there was a realistic plan to move forward without them.
Can’t imagine that’s the case but we can hope
