New transfer portal wave is now starting around the country at the 4-game mark

Players are starting to opt out after 4-games and take a redshirt and declare their intentions to enter the portal when it next opens.
I haven't seen anyone I think LSU would go after, but this is the trend and I expect to see several dozen players announce in the next week or so.

According to On3 there are only 23 players currently in the 2024 portal, and most of those declared preseason.
I only see 9 on the list that have declared since the season started, but there are several more I saw on Twitter today that are not on the list yet.

LSU will lose at least 3-4 RBs this year, so the depth will be different next year significantly.
Would be no big loss, though. He's talented, but can't stay healthy.

I don't know about four game mark, but I think their personal fourth game they play is when people will start entering the portal. You probably won't start seeing this around the country until around our bye week or later.

If that dude ever stays healthy I swear he would be the best rb on the lsu roster.
I hope he sticks it out but I wouldn't be surprised in the least. I bet he is redshirting this year.

I think less of a transfer player that quits on the team midseason than the ones that stick to it and transfer after the season.

90 percent or more of the total players are arse, at any point.
It's basically a Quarterback Portal.
Few good DL or OL come from the portal. There are some decent WR and DB, just because there are way more of those players than linemen in football.
A school like LSU can sometimes get some elite players in the portal, but in general it's for depth.

That’s just wrong. We got some really good players from the portal all over our roster. Kids leave for so many reasons, it’s not just because they suck. They can leave for personal reasons, they can leave because they want to go to a better school, playing time, want another start at a different place. Sometimes a different place can be a restart for you and just because they weren’t good at another school doesn’t mean they can’t be good at your school. It can be as simple as the players current coach just can’t get the best out of him and a different coach has the approach that works for him. So not true at all.

Nah if they played 4 games and will lose a year if they play another game then can’t fault that if they really wanted to see a change and new place and things are same old same old

You could declare for the portal after say the 8th game of the season if you haven’t logged playing time in more than 4. It’s not after the 4th game of the season, its based on the participation of the player. It could be after game 10 or game 6.

How many Elite players do we get from recruiting period? Fact is that “elite” players are rare no matter where they from.
Key starters that have and will contribute and make a huge difference on our team. Jefferson/Shand/Oghoufo/Swinson,Diggs, Anderson will be a very good player, our entire secondary Harris/Brooks/Burns/Sam/Alexander, Speights will get better, Lacy has and will contribute.
Imagine if we didn’t have these guys? While we are building with quality depth we will still need players to come contribute and add experience. Not just depth. Depth is a player here not starting but here getting better and if need be, could start for you. These guys are playing significant roles, making plays, and helping our team win games. Not simply here to add depth. We need that as well but those guys are the younger players from HS at this time. At some point we won’t need to add as many but we will always add portal talent and it’s real talent.
Why wouldn’t you go get someone experienced to fill roles on your team. I hope we get to a point where we simply need them for depth. That means we have starters who are better than they are and have been in the system for a few years. We are still 3 maybe 4 years away from that point.
