Thanks was just about to post it. Don’t really know too much about his game.

Been pretty quiet, but Harper seems like the most exciting potential signing

That Rothstein site is cool, but that was a big oversight on their part to leave R. Miller off altogether, because he wasn't even listed as a loss nor on the team

I agree.

I'll be shocked if he doesn't beat Gilhool.

He will, gilhool really doesn’t appear to be the bang around type of big. He can shoot outside, but his interior game doesn’t seem developed enough for minutes over those guys.
I do wonder if McMahon plans to run 4 guard a bunch next season.

Gilhool would have to be way ahead of his ranking to beat out Miller. Did you not watch any of the games down the stretch? Of course Miller is more of a 5 and Gilhool looks like a 4, so maybe it isn't between those two.

I would be very happy with the Howard kid, Blake Harper, and/or Stojo Jr for the last two spots.

Stephen Payne the 3rd looks similar to Corey Chest. Probably cheaper. Plus we replace one of our "the 3rds" that we lost.

My fault, I completely agree with you. I misread the statement and was saying gilhool won’t beat out any of the other bigs

If McMahon felt like Miller wouldnt be much a part of the team rotation next season getting beat out by a true freshman I doubt he would have just gotten him taken care of to get Indiana off of getting him in the portal.

Miller progressed pretty decently as the season went along. Yeah his interior game overall was lacking but the physicality slowly picked up for him as the season progressed. He has a very good skillset to turn into a player sooner than later. He put up double digits scoring in 4 of our last 9 games all of which were against NCAAT teams and even had a really great game vs. the national champion UF team (19 pts/10 reb). The problem was he was still a freshman and very inconsistent to close out the year. Was basically invisible in 3 of those final 9 games as well.

I wouldnt be mad about Givens leaving, dude was just one of the worst players I've seen here in the last decade who got significant minutes for us. We should be able to easily upgrade via the portal there with a backup PG.

I guess Miller got a bag because of Indiana so he demanded one? Sorry, but he got every opportunity this past season and likely was going to get the same next year at LSU. I think he is a talented pg, but he will be facing less secure playing time elsewhere.

Outside of a high recruiting ranking what talent did Givens ever show? He was either terrible or below average at just about everything a player is asked to do.

About the nicest thing you could say about him was at least he didnt turn the ball over a ton, I guess?

I think the guy got really overrated out of high school because he played on a team full of elite talent, and he just wasnt one of those guys.

Yea I wouldn't have minded keeping givens but there are probably 200 players in the portal that can give us backup minutes. So not really a big loss.

Hopefully one of them, LSUbutt look away my friend, can shoot

Been told the staff wasn’t blindsided by this so either we have something lined up or he was demanding more cash. Could’ve been recruited by another school also.

Edit: I also asked Shea if the staff knew about it:

quote:

It's Matty B's beat, but yes the staff meets with all the guys and almost always know what's happening relative to them staying or going. This could mean they have another G lined up.

He was a solid ball handler with good size and defense. Since nearly every player has improved 3 point shooting from year 1 to 2 under McMahon, it would be reasonable to think he would have as well.

Having said that, leaving us at the last second is pretty dirty as it is unlikely someone was throwing a huge bag at him or could offer him a better opportunity. Now we need a solid point who will accept a backup role (albeit with minutes CG3 would have had) with who is left in the portal.

Mike Williams is the only player who didn't improve at 3, but he was off most of the year. I wonder if he would give us a call as he hasn't found a landing spot and a good number of minutes just opened up.

He basically added nothing on the offensive end, he wasnt getting assists, and he was a bad defender, not sure where you are getitng he was good with defense. He had the worst defensive rating and DBPM on the team last season. Looking at other advanced stats he was near bottom of the league in defense as well.

He shot terrible from 3, from 2 even (31%) and 59% from the FT line.

Dude was just a bad player

Honestly at this point its hard to be blindsided by all these shenanigans, you really don't know who you'll have until the first game tips off lol.
