Both new assistant coaches Anthony and Page from Miami have a lot of experience recruiting international players. Both coaches have deep international ties. Anthony recruited international players at Miami and HS/AAU. Page played in the Wnba, as well as played in Spain, Italy, and Brazil. And Page coached the Canadian national team. There are a lot of talented and experienced pro players oversees. This year there are 1,500 international players on WBB rosters. Look at Uconn, Ucla, USC-w, they usually have 3-5 international players on their rosters every year. Looks like LSU's international recruiting is starting to pay off. This is an exciting strategy for LSU.

What is up with Mulkey and the influx of international players?

I don't know, but I like it. It seems like the only approach to use to be able to keep your quality and depth level high when you have to replace 6-7 players a year (hope it won't be that many next year).

Since just a few of the top players in the portal and the top U.S. high school recruits will drain your budget when competing against other elite schools, it's a good budgetary move to refresh your roster with international players who've played professionally.

They expanded recruiting board more but Fitzroy has a lot of experience recruiting and looking internationally and have some connections. Gary/Daphne really didn’t deal with that

There weren’t a lot of true high end “big” that were 6’3 and up so they went overseas to get it.

I'd like to see WBB get an overseas 6'6 or 6'7 player who's coordinated and can rebound.

I think Kate Koval will step up this season, she has 1-year in Kim's system. Jr and Sr years are typically the optimal years. She has Coach Page to help her improve her skills. Page was one of the best Post players and played against the best players in the Wnba for 11 years, and Spain, Italy and Brazil. She is known as an elite Post Development Specialist. Coach Anthony coached both Posts and Guards. Koval, Morro, Knox, and Lampley are in good hands.

I've been watching Will for a couple of years now. He is a SC homer, but I've noticed with his newer podcast he's trying to be more equal in his assessment of teams outside of SC. I do agree with him that Morro has the potential to change the dynamic on offense for this team, if she can score inside AND outside. It remains to be seen but, I have a feeling she's going to be the starting power forward with Knox coming off the bench, and Koval at the center.

Capt Will is good people. He has lowkey become a fan of LSU since Lay has transferred here. His homerism for South Carolina can be annoying sometimes and be a bit much but he definitely pays attention/researches very closely to women's basketball and has good insight.

Since it was the first time I've heard him, I was impressed by his research, his knowledge of LSU's lineup and program, his knowledge of SEC and women's basketball in general, and the respect he showed Mulkey and LSU's program. More positive than even some of those who are LSU fans.

he's very big on analytics and basketball "efficiency". Also SOS which he rags on Mulkey about all the time.

Not basketball related, but Capt. Will was on last seasons Big Brother show. He was one of the older people on the show. He did well.

I think Kim's strength of schedule will be better this year since she doesn't have eight total newcomers that she has to watch and figure out. This year there's only one freshman, and the portal transfers are experienced and known commodities from their tape and playing against LSU.

UConn is already on the schedule, and you know LSU will play South Carolina, Texas, and Vanderbilt at least once apiece. I bet Kim plays another tough non-conference game or two against ranked opponents to see the combinations which work best under great pressure to avoid another 0-2 SEC start. A number one regional seed probably looks more important to her now than it did last year.

Isn't Lampley a wing?

I hope so and heard about UConn. IMO Kim needs to get with the times playing tougher non conference schedule. I dont think we lose to Kentucky or Vanderbilt this year playing a tougher non conference schedule. It took playing good competition to figure out our weaknesses or what we needed to get better at. You dont lose to Kentucky or Vandy and youre the highest 2 seed maybe even a 1 seed and your road is easier making your chances of making the final four higher. Duke was the best 3 seed and a lot better than a lot of the 2 seeds.

She is both F/W. She has played both in HS. She is 6'2" same height as Knox. If Kim doesn't get another Post, she may put Lampley in as Post. Kim is moving Johnson to Wing since she is undersized for Post.

The post group should be

6’5 Koval
6’5 Minaeva
6’3 Morro
6’2 Knox
6’2 Lampley

With flexibility to go small with Lampley/MK for a small and quicker lineup

Lampley is not small, she is same height 6'2" as Knox. She played primarily Power Forward in HS. But she is athletic and versatile to play Wing too. It's nice we have more height this year and more balanced.

She actually played wing in the McDonald's All-Star game. She has handles and is quick to the hoop with moves in the paint. A real slasher. Also an aggressive rebounder with good speed on the break. Didn't see her launch any 3s because she didn't get the ball all that much. But when she did she took it to the cup and drew fouls. Made 6 of 6 free throws. Also showed a good midrange jumper.

I like the flexibility with this lineup and the fact that MK can play the 4. After viewing the various highlight reels, all of the big girls can run. The two new ones (one incoming) are strong to back it down in the paint. Morro can pop out and bury the 3.

How many wings can also play the 4 and point well like MK? I can't think of one.
