it doesn't matter that Chester made ALL SEC freshman team to our fans he is not good

Look, I rarely shyt on players and I'm not speaking ill of Chester but the kid struggled MIGHTILY all season and looked completely overwhelmed at times. He made All-Freshman by default because he was the only starting center in the SEC.

Can he improve? Absolutely, and I full expect that he will. I also, like many others, think moving him to guard would benefit everyone.

I don't imagine there were many freshman starting centers in the SEC to choose from. I like Chester and think he did ok for a 1st year starter at a very tough position and look forward to see his growth. But competition drives success.

It's a big deal if we get a 2 yr starter at center in a power 4 conference. Chester firdt yr playing real games at center was this yr. A more natural center with 2 yrs under the belt is a big deal. And he's 22 next yr. Would give us much needed experience at a technical spot, and game tested mature player to a brand new / very young oline roster.

"Braelin Moore is a multi-year starter for Virginia Tech. He played guard in 2023, but moved to center for this season and feels it is his best position."

I believe you’d have coen Echols and Moore compete for center.

Dont think theres any real competition there, Moore is your starter. He's a 2-year starter from an ACC school and was solid.

Echols couldnt get on the field this year and we just had our worst center ever in school history in my memory

Moore has 2 more years left too which is great, maybe we get some stability there for a couple seasons with a good player.

The path to Echols playing next year is probably at guard.

I’m assuming Jones and the seniors won’t play in the bowl game? I would see what you have at center with Echols and try Chester at guard

It's always up to the players so we'll find out, if they want to play I'd definitely let them play but personally I prefer to see players who are coming back next year in bowl games for a few reasons:

1. It's an exhibition game at this point anyways with so many players sitting out the game who are either in the portal, or going to the draft. These are from representations of your team that actually played this season.

2. It gives you a fun look to prepare guys coming back for next year for a few weeks leading up to the bowl game....its not like you're trying to plug and play someone mid-game or with a week till your next opponent. You can bring a guy along a lot over a few weeks if you know they have to play now.

He looked worse the Chester against Vandy this year. Don't know if that was a one-off, but he didn't get much push at all and got blown by several times for QB pressures and sacks.

Vs Vanderbilt 2024

Moore PFF Grade vs. Vandy - 65.8
Chester PFF grade vs. Vandy - 58.3 (One of his top 3 games, sadly)

Yeah it wasnt bad by any means. I mean Chester by comparison picks up 2-3 penalties in a handful of games and flat out misses blocks left and right.

This guy is a massive upgrade over him

I filtered down to centers on PFF from this season who played at least 250 snaps, 151 players qualified.

Chester was 149th/151 with a 49.0 overall grade
Braelin Moore was 46th/151 with a 69.6 overall grade

Top 70 was a weird way to put it but this guy was very solid and Chester by comparison was awful. This is an instant upgrade and a pretty big one even if this guy wasn't "elite". There is basically 1 elite center in the portal right now, and he's from Liberty and actually played guard, not center this season (played center a year ago).

Per on3, Va Tech has the top OT also in the portal. I don’t see that Moore has been ranked yet on On3

247 has Moore ranked as the #4 IOL in the portal and #38 overall.

What center anywhere has an outstanding first year starting? Last year i believe he split time in practice between guard and center and he is fricking 6’6 I believe, any center that big has some trouble it’s a position for short smaller and quick guys, and those don’t always translate well against tougher competition
