re: LSU has landed a commitment from 2024 CB PJ Woodland

Anyone can look at our CB offers last year and this year - we missed on a ton of top DBs and the coaches had to move way down on their board to get commitments. This isn't the way to rebuild an elite secondary.
Ondre Evans answered this question when he insinuated this LSU staff can’t develop DBs. He wasn’t wrong, we won’t get those 4-5 stars unless we have coaches who can prove they develop them. Cooks/Steeples isn’t that.
Evans left LSU for Georgia strictly because, unlike in previous times, UGA is now more proven to developing DBs than LSU. And he said as much in his statement. It would be smart for the coaches to listen to what recruits say is the reason they flipped.

This site is so goddamn miserable sometimes. We lost a commit (which sucks) and replaced him with a player who was committed to another SEC school less than a week later and all we do is bitch about it.
I would rather them not lose Evans but they got a replacement immediately and still aren’t done.
ETA: if it helps some of the bitching, Woodland is a 4* on rivals

Seems like a desperate reach here with this guy. 165 pounds

Yeah I mean kids don’t grow anymore and can’t put on any weight with a 6’0 frame …what are we thinking…

Kirby has actually put quite a few 3 stars into the NFL
And so has LSU.

Y’all act like the staff is complete idiots
You act like we've recruited well at DB since Steeples took over.

Wait until we trade Bates for Causey
Or we lose Bates and Causey doesn't flip. Causey is far from a lock to do so.
Not to say Woodland is a scrub, his film shows otherwise. But in camp, head to head with most of our CB prospects, he was the worst. We passed on him for a reason. Hell insiders confirmed we passed on him just last week. That's where the handwringing comes from. The board hasn't changed since the spring. What have the staff been doing? They weren't on top of the Evans situation, doesn't appear they were ready for the Bates possibility and the board is exactly the same as in the spring leadup to camp season. It's obvious coaching hasn't taken up too much time, so again, what have they been doing? It's a fair question.
A class of,
Foster-hes been a questionable take since the day he committed
Johnson-great athlete that has to adjust to a position he's not used to playing
Causey-a backup plan
Woodland-a backup plan
doesn't inspire confidence that the issue is getting fixed. Another round of transfer portal hopes and dreams I suppose. So far that has been a failure at this particular position.

So everyone will feel better once he gets the LSU bump soon. He definitely has very good ball skills which we have lacked most of this year on the field.

3* corners have been doing so well for us, let's go get more.
I'm convinced he's just looking for warm bodies at this point.

Insufferable is the word which comes to mind...some folks just have trouble being happy
Doesn't matter LSU's DL was AWOL for no less than 3 games...placing crazy pressure on the secondary

I do kind of agree.

Crazy how this fan base goes from “lsu can’t beat out TX & TAMU for kids” but when they beat out them out for a kid, it’s a “desperate reach”. Lol

They also beat out Ole miss and auburn
Both teams were pushing for his commit.
Woodland could honestly play on offense if it doesn't work out at corner

Offers from Texas, A&M, Tenn, Auburn, MSU, FSU, Auburn.
Obviously you’d rather have kept Evans but this dude isn’t some scrub.

He’s a top 300 player blindly looking at his tape
He’s really good with the ball in his hands. Flexible and agile & gets to top speed fast. Has to learn to run backwards but he very clearly has ball skills based on his defensive film
165 is a suitable starting weight for a CB going into college. Look at his neck, too. He’s gonna grow into that thing

Steeples is not who should be coaching DB’s at LSU. BK needs to get a name with skins on the wall.
