Leanne hasn’t 100 percent confirmed it, but there are a lot of articles talking about a run for her in 2024. I would imagine she would since she was so close last time and she had a wonderful showing at worlds.
I know what you mean about winning because other teams did not have their best lineup, but the same could be said about us this year. We did not have our best lineup for SECs this year and the other teams did benefit from that. I do agree that routine construction can be further improved. I’m glad that they altered Aleah’s floor routine to a 2 pass over these last few weeks. And they have changed around some things more this year than in years past, so that is very promising for the future!

It looks like we will be with Michigan, Oregon State, and Denver plus some add ins for regionals. Florida moved ahead of Michigan so they will go to the Pitt Regional instead of Denver. This is according to the formula posted by the NCAA. All the regionals are going to be "nail biters".

Yes, all of the regionals are going to be tough! The thing I worry about for ours is the altitude. I remember Haleigh having trouble with it a few years ago. I hope they can fly there early enough so their bodies get used to it. I’m also wondering if Denver will benefit from home scoring. I sure hope LSU can make it to nationals especially after the heartbreak they suffered last year.

I agree! The altitude affected Hayleigh's double full in her last pass on floor. She is tired from competing every week this season already. Jay should take this in consideration for the welfare of the team and go early if possible to adjust to the altitude.

Based on NQS, looks like Haleigh and Aleah are regular reason All Americans.
Haleigh - 1st Team vault (#1!), AA, floor
2nd Team bars
Aleah - 1st Team beam & floor
2nd Team AA
So proud of both of them. They have literally carried this team to a #2 seed at Regionals.

I’m not worried about the altitude because 1) we have already had a meet at altitude this season and the coaches seem to this year have a better grasp on what the girls will need to be prepared to compete in that environment , 2) Haleigh prior to regionals in 2021 was struggling with her final pass where as this year she has been more solid (2 years makes a difference when it comes to experience, mental maturity and confidence especially in the world of this sport), and 3) the added rest day (which we didn’t have back in 2021) and location of the meet (a 6 hour flight across the country give or take) will most likely have the team leaving on Monday, which will be plenty of time for them to adjust to the altitude before they need to compete on Thursday and Saturday. Also despite the injuries, this team seems to be more fit than previous teams in terms of their level of conditioning on floor especially (Sierra is the first one that comes to mind for me because she casually jogs into her final pass; another athlete I know will be fine with the altitude is Alyona who grew up training in Colorado, less than an hour away from the Denver campus- maybe Alyona’s parents can let the team practice at her home gym the day before the regional practice day to adjust to the altitude). Despite that though, I hope the coaches choose to focus solely on the details and conditioning in the coming practices leading up to Regionals, less so than doing full routines to get them ready to compete

Here is the press conference from Jay. Doesn’t seem like we are getting KJ back. Bummer! And Aleah is sticking with the two pass routine which is really smart!

Disappointed to hear that he’s only viewing Elena/Livvy’s spot on bars as “open” seriously how blind is he to Alyona’s scores every week.
Also disappointing that he’s so against transfers, especially when ours have worked out so well. Florida and Utah each have 3x9.9+ routines from transfer(s) this year, he could at least keep an open mind like Garrett is ?????

Well at least Jay finally admitted he’s the reason we don’t typically do two pass routines. I get it - I hate them too, but, as they say, if you can’t beat them, join them.
I will say - though I think his hand has been forced this year - I am pleased to see some adjustments be made this year. I think Alyona in the bars lineup (or at least right before haleigh) is still a huge mistake and possibly the only thing he could or would fix. I know everyone talks about Kiya, Cammy, and Annie as the big injuries - but I sometimes just think about the stride KJ was hitting…and how that could have helped this team (especially if it meant we could get Sierra or Alyona off beam)
And I don’t want to hear Jay talk about not putting freshman (eg Cowan) in the bars lineup. Sami was the lead off starting her freshman year, lol (and I give Sami a ton of credit in that leadoff role - I think in the leadoff role she had maybe one mistake in 3 years)

Not trying to harp on her because this is a coaching (and judging) issue and she is a great teammate and great on other events, but according to Gymcastic Alyona got the lowest bars score of all 24 bars routines in the evening session of SECs.

Truly says all you need to know about judging in the NCAA these days. How can you possibly separate routines when everyone who doesn’t fall gets the same score?

But the real issue is Jay needs to be aware of this issue and make adjustments - I know it’s her favorite and what she was “known” for in elite. But even then she had dismount issues.
Posted on 3/22/23 at 1:43 pm to LSUgymfan420
Agreed! Even with less experience, Cowan is clearly the better option for the lineup because of her lack of built in deductions.
Posted on 3/22/23 at 6:23 pm to lsugymfann
Well that goes back to Jay actually. I think she could be really good scorer if they had changed her dismount freshman year. I don’t mind her in lineup but move her up to second. Or better yet switch her and Alexis.

Jay changing Haleigh's floor to two pass routine for regionals. Hmmm I guess he can adapt to the times

Posted on 3/27/23 at 8:49 pm to lsutiger2
That is a big step for him - I have said it before; I am not sure Jay would have made any of these changes if he wasn’t forced to; but since he was, we can hope it has shown him that there are multiple ways to do things and still have a successful season.

Is there a difference in scoring with 2 passes and 3?

The fewer skills, the fewer deductions.
Oklahoma, Bama and Florida are pretty much all doing it.
