But it's also not terribly unexpected with the addition of Stewart. Cook, Stewart, and Girard were all starters on their previous teams. Cook and Girard were multi-year starters. I doubt ANY of them will want to got to a place to simply be a 6th man or role player. They want to start. With Cook and Stewart already on board, he may feel the backcourt is now crowded and he wants to look at places where there isn't as much congestion.

ON3 is now reporting the Girard is a slight Clemson lean. Still about 47% LSU, but 53% Clemson.

As much as I like Girard, I wouldn't be surprised at all if we were moving on to somebody like RaeQuan Battle.

A guy 6-4 or 6-5 makes perhaps more sense than Girard. Especially now that we've brought in Stewart.

We're still short a scorer and playmaker in the backcourt, though. You really need three kids who can handle the ball and create shots for themselves and others.

Oklahoma State Forward Tyreek Smith just entered the portal. He will be a grad transfer and is from Baton Rouge Louisiana. He is listed at 6’9 217. Wonder if we go after him and bring him home for his final year?

Looking at Tyreek’s stats, he was an active shot blocker and rebounder, and an efficient scorer. I think he would compete favorably with Fountain. Fountain rebounds decently at about 9 rebounds but only 0.8 blocks per 40 minutes, while Tyreek averages 1 more rebound and 2.3 blocks per 40 minutes. Tyreek doesn’t have a perimeter game, unlike Fountain, but he does have a positive BPM on both offense and defense. I think we should offer him. As an added incentive, he plays with Mousa Cisse, so maybe he can help lure Cisse to complete the package.

. We still have Trae and Williams that can create and handle the ball. Ward and Wright as well, so we may have enough handlers. Cook and Stewart will probably both play 30 mpg each. The main reason for another is in case one disappoints, to spell the others, and for versatility to exploit matchups.

People are forgetting about him. 6’6 and can create his own shot while also being good C&S is invaluable. I really think he’s going to be a great player

Completely agree. He's got good length. He was active in the passing lanes (though sometimes over-aggressive), and could elevate on his jumper. Though limited in his minutes, he shot 39% from three in SEC play averaging ~3 attempts per game. He's got a bit of a funky shot in that the ball has more side-spin than backspin, but it seems to work for him.

Him wasting away on the bench as LSU's highest ranked recruit while they were getting pounded game after game made no sense to me. Especially, considering he very much looked like an SEC athlete once he got in the game. I figured because of his lack of PT he would be one of the first out the door when the season ended. Instead, thankfully, it looks like he is all-in with LSU (for now at least)

And for those who are suspect of McMahon's recruiting compared to Wade's, Ward was a big target of Wade's before he was fired.

I'm really hoping Ward takes the starter role at 3. It definitely would give us more length if we had Ward at the 3 and Wright at the 2. It's probably asking too much of Ward to play the 4.

I really like Ward, and another offseason in the weight room should do wonders for him. I'd still take Battle too though. I would love a rotation of Stewart, Ward, Mwani, and Battle along with Cook in 3 guard sets. We still need a big to bang defensively with other teams bigs when Baker gets in foul trouble. Fountain needs to gain some weight to play the 5. I see Wright or Mwani playing the 4 in small lineups.

Don't be surprised if we play a good bit with Ward or Wright playing the 4. Especially if he brings in another guard who can really score like Girard or Battle.

Teams are beginning to play more of a four-out type of game with the "forwards" really being swing men. Especially if they've got a rim protector who can hold down the defensive end.

I don't know that Baker gives us that, but he can open up the lane by giving us a pick-and-pop guy at the high post offensively, and it looks a little like we're going to throw defense to the wind and just try to outscore people. And if we do that, it might just be that Fountain and Reed are just asked to come off the bench and spell Baker.

I don't see Ward starting. He is a liability on defense and he openly displayed a bad attitude at times during games. He needs to mature and commit to playing D.

Pace and Space. Get up and down the floor. Get to the rim or 3’s once you get them in rotation. Under the previous regime we used to kill teams at the FT line. Wade’s goal was to make more FT’s than the other team attempted

White is not a great shooter. Just 26.4 percent on 49 3 point shots.

Also underwater on assists to turnovers.

He's an athlete, though.

The question with him is whether we have enough shooters than we can afford him in the lineup. I don't know that we do.

We would have enough shooting if he plays the 3 with Stewart and Cook in at guard and Baker at the 5. That’s probably a terrible defensive lineup tho. It’s also very possible his shot gets better. Looking at highlights it doesn’t look broken

I guess the first question is what is considered a "knockdown" shooter? Given that the mid-range jump-shot is looked at as a "bad" shot in today's basketball, I have to think you are considering a "knockdown shooter" to be a good three point shooter.

To that end, Carlos Stewart shot 40% on nearly 5 three point attempts per game. Cook was 35%. Baker was 36% (albeit on limited attempts).

On the current roster, Wilkinson has proven he has the ability to knockdown an open 3 (8/18 last season for 44%). Tyrell Ward was 39% in conference play (again, in limited shots).

While LSU wasn't a great 3 point shooting team last year, it wasn't their biggest weakness. They were horrible finishing around the basket and were a poor defensive team. Getting a bit better from behind the arc is not suddenly going to make this a great team. If the same defensive struggles are there next season all that added 3 point shooting will mean is you lose double-digit SEC games by a slightly lower margin.

If you look at 90% of the post in here they are all about offense. Part of that is because of the nature of the game, but other aspects like defense and rebounding are absolutely necessary to be great. For all of the Will Wade fans, his WORST three point shooting team was his best team at LSU (18-19). That's because LSU was decent defensively, and great on the offensive glass and converting at the FT line.

IMO, the biggest part of being a great three point shooting team is getting good shots. Outside of KJ last season, LSU's offensive structure was so bad that they had far too few good looks from deep. If that changes this season, I think LSU has enough with the new players and few of the returnees to be fine from an outside shooting perspective. My concern now is defense and rebounding. Without it, there is a cap on how good you can be.

8/18 in limited time due to injury is nice, obviously. I'd like to see his numbers against the SEC schedule. Hope Wilkinson has a break out year, even if it means being the 6th man. He's never been someone you can count on consistently for offense. Hopefully that'll change.

Call me old school but i still have a soft spot for a midrange beast like a Kemba Walker. Also love a big who can face up and hit a FT line jumper against a zone.
