on3’s Jamie Shaw recently had an article on ‘25 4-star PF Chris Cenac from Isadore Newman: LINK
I haven’t personally seen Cenac play but the article suggests he has the skills of a modern big man and will be a major priority for LSU for 2025. It’s also cool to see a LA kid get a write up from one of on3’s nationals guys.
Also, here are a couple other names to watch for in 2025:
- 4-star PG Jaylen Cross
- 4-star PG Jalen Reece
- 4-star SF Jamier Jones
Reece and Jones are high school teammates out of Orlando and here is an interesting quote Reece gave about LSU:

”It was a cool visit. Just knowing that players like Antonio Blakeney and Ben Simmons went there, those are people I look up to. Knowing that it’s my turn to go and put the jersey on and just having the ability to go over there and play. (Antonio Blakeney) means a lot to me personally. That’s like my big brother. I remember last year he told me to always be the last one out of the gym. He’s given me a lot of tricks and tips and I work out with him in the summer. I love our relationship.”

I realize this really doesn’t matter now but Miller verbally committed to Oregon. I didn’t see anything about him signing a letter of intent.
Just to follow up on this, Miller did indeed sign with Oregon.

I have been slacking big time, will get this completely updated this week!

I wish this would get unanchored but it looks like that won’t be the case until February.

Rivals had a short article on '26 4-star SF Chidi Nwigwe last week. He's currently the #13 overall player by on3 and he had this to say about LSU:

quote:
ON SCHOOLS HE IS MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO HEARING FROM IN JUNE:
“Alabama has been on my mind. Also, maybe LSU. I would love to get in contact with them and talk to see what they want me to work on and where we stand.”

It looks like on3 recently updated LSU’s offer list for 2025. There were 4 new offers added:
PG Darius Acuff
PG King Grace
PG Nigel James
PF Tylis Jordan
Jordan’s addition was very likely a correction as I’m sure he’s had an offer for awhile. The others may well be new though.

I think Terry Bussey could also play basketball.

As far as 2024, it appears as though LSU hasn’t completely given up on the high school ranks. In December, 247 put out an article on ‘24 SG Justin Pippen where he mentions that LSU has been in contact. Here’s said article: LINK
Pippen reads like more of a mid major prospect, but apparently is a late bloomer of sorts who is getting interest from high major programs now. He reportedly has offers from Cal, Stanford, and A&M with interest from UGA and LSU as well. He may be someone to monitor in the spring.
eta: Also, I probably should’ve noted that Justin is the son of Bulls legend Scottie Pippen. It’s mentioned in the above article.

It’s slim pickings as far as 2024 right now. I’m sure we’re tied to some recruits but it’s so hard to tell who those might be. It does sound like they want a high school guard though. Besides Justin Pippen, we were in on 4-star Daniil Glazkov but he committed to Loyola Chicago last week.
I imagine it will be another big portal class especially for post players.

Only players I think we have a chance of getting as of now are:
Jeremiah Evans 3* 6'8'' PF, #1 player in LA, #203 nationally
Anthony Gilkes 3* 6'6'' SG, #231 nationally
Alijah Curry 3* 6'8'' SF, #252 nationally
I think Gilkes is the best player of the three. Don't know how many of these guys MM wants to go for vs how many guys he wants to get from the portal.
edit: apparently Evans signed with ULL back in January. Wasn't posted on any recruiting website, only on Twitter.

McMahon had better hit the transfer portal hard. Three and four star freshman will not be good enough to compete right away for top half of the sec in most cases.

I think he wants to add another guard but it may be difficult to do with the options out there right now. I’m not sure how much we’re recruiting Gilkes and Curry at this point either but they reportedly have offers so I don’t know.

McMahon himself said he made it a point to get "older" with his transfer signings (3 GS and a 4th year player in Cook), so I don't think he wants to be reliant on too many young players next year. His short history at LSU has shown that to be the case. He didn't give Ward and Phillips significant minutes until the end of last season (even though LSU was historically bad). This year he chose to redshirt his top recruit, Chest. Reed has a unique skillset which is why he started last season and Williams was forced into early action this year with Cook being ineligible for the 1st half of the season.
I suspect additional HS recruiting will depend upon who he has returning. If he feels he has enough experience returning he may take one more HS player. If not, he's likely to use those spots on 3-4 year transfers

With the 2 freshmen signed, we only have 2 spots left. If we have to drop a scholarship we only have one. I have to believe that we would use that on a veteran center to replace Baker and Dean. Even with Collins we will need a solid 5 player.
If we had an extra spot without losing one of our point guards, we might look for a sf. Looking at the 2024 classes, sometimes you could get a late decommit from a coach getting fired. Unfortunately the few coaches on a hot seat seem to only have point guards committed, and we already have a good one in this class.

Who are the players staying from this year, in your opinion?
Who are the currently signed freshman players (newcomers)?
When I look at the roster, I could see a number of players leaving from graduation/out of eligibility as well as some possible transfers out. I don't follow the roster as closely as I once did.
Will we have 13 scholarships available to fill next year after the NCAA ruling?

Thanks for the breakdown of current roster and signees.
If you are correct, it appears that there will be at least 3 spots to fill.
