Former Dunham player and Santa Clara transfer. Averaged 15 Points as a sophomore.

What is so big about the transfer? He is a good kid, and I am always happy to see local kids get a chance at LSU. However, he is coming from a small school. I don't see how he makes an impact in the SEC.

No one expects the men's team to win the SEC next year. We just need some positive momentum to build on as the program rebuilds. This is a step in the right direction.

Yeah transfers from small schools have NEVER been productive in the SEC or any other P5 conference. Also the WCC is solid comp and some of his best games were against Gonzaga. Sometimes it’s easier if you just think (or do some research) before you post something so stupid and wrong.

Do some of you people even watch college basketball outside of one or two games a year?

That seems like an obvious thing but my time on this board has made me wonder if it actually is.

He's coming from Santa Clara who plays in the West Coast Conference. That is the same conference in which teams like Gonzaga, St. Mary's (perennial NCAAT teams) reside, as well as schools like BYU and San Francisco who are solid. For their part, Santa Clara was in the NIT this year. The WCC's conference RPI was 9th out of 32 conferences. Only the traditional power conferences, along with the Mountain West (San Diego St.) and CUSA (FAU) were ranked higher. While the WCC is not quite on par with the Big 12, Big 10, SEC, etc., it's in the very next tier.
For his part, Stewart was 1st team All-WCC. He averaged 15 ppg and shot 40% from three. Does that mean he's going to come in and be 1st team All SEC? No. But he's more than just a "local kid coming from a small school". And if you are someone who believes in the industry rankings, he's currently ranked as the 23rd best transfer...ahead of quite a few power conf. guys.

Thanks for the info Alt. I have seen his game. If he can shot 40% for us it would be big. Not sure if that percentage will be the same with the step up in competition.

We just need some positive momentum to build on as the program rebuilds. This is a step in the right direction.
He's bringing in some decent veteran talent in what looks like a class set to stabilize the program so that he will have something better to pitch to other transfers and recruits in the future.
Of course, he'll still have to coach them up and make it work, but it at least appears he knows where the weaknesses are and is addressing them as much as possible, at this point.
Regardless, I'm hoping he'll be successful and the days of an exciting PMAC are back. Hopefully, last year was a blip on the radar.

What the frick man. Can y’all watch ball before commenting on it??
Literally every SEC school except Tennessee and Ole Miss had a non-power 5 school transfer in their top 3 in scoring. 12 of 14 did it JUST last year, and you have no idea how a *small school* guy will make an impact?

Well , do you realize that Santa Clara produced the #12 pick in the NBA draft last year and he started for OKC

There’s also that Steve Nash guy. He was terrible.

Seems like McMahon is taking the Brian Kelly approach to the transfer portal. Taking local guys who may have been overlooked in the HS recruiting process who want to come home and represent the Boot.
