False. Baseball was a non-revenue sport and had free transfer. Sitting out a year didn’t start until some time in the 2000s.
It was some time in the early 2000s because I remember Todd Linden was one of the last ones we got.

Yea it was open transfer in the 90s and early 2000s for sure. Linden, Heath and a couple others come to mind immediately. I want to say they changed it sometime after 2010 or so but it wasn’t all that long ago bc then it started back I believe with the recent stuff with nil a few years ago.
I believe Mainieri’s first couple of teams had a few guys, Blake Martin, Charlie Furbush, and others who transferred in. I recall JT wise went to Oklahoma and played immediately as well in 2008?

I wondered if that had to do with the percentage of a scholarship you might receive. There was no 25% minimum in the 90s either. I had a friend who received book money and that was it.

Haven't heard that name in awhile. Probably Mainieri's favorite player of all time

There is a fall portal that opens begining of December. 12/1 I think. It used to be 7 days but they may have added a couple days for this year.

when is the last day we can sign players from the portal and is there anyone left thats a known target.
I realize nobody can enter at this time.

I thought I heard there was a portal window for the designated players sometime in the next 30 days. This gives those players a chance to find a new spot before Fall workouts start up.

The designated scholar athlete designation they have for football, allowing players to stay with the team and not count against the roster limits, do they have that for all sports?

What are we looking to add?

This was the adjustment made between the fully free transfers and the everyone sits a year transfers. For a short period of time, guys who weren't on any scholarship could still transfer freely. That didn't last too long. I can't remember any notable examples of it, except maybe JT Wise as indicated earlier in the thread. It was (and still mostly is) hard to know who is on scholarship and who isn't.
