That's awesome to see, but also only one of those is a returning player and the others are all new. Which is interesting.

I noticed there was a question to Jay (toward the end) about baseball funds seemingly better this year. Essentially, Jay reminded him that funding is a year-to-year type thing. Always a fight for our beloved baseball program it seems.
I noticed Jay also mentioned that the team would be honoring Skip in several different ways this upcoming season.
Although most returning players seemed to shed an inch or two, Casan Evans actually gained an inch (pause).
He's now listed as 6-3.

He basically said Washington could go back to the outfield and be elite at any time. Kinda like he didn't really need much practice there. I think this move is mainly with an eye towards next year. Laya, Patrick, Davis, and Washington are all presumably back. Along with Braun, Serna, Santarelli, etc. SS/2B/3B project to be the more available positions. If Washington could play one of those it appears to give a more clear path for more of your upper echelon returners to be in the lineup.
Jay also stated that Laya has the strongest arm. Not that that's extremely noteworthy but it must be noticeable for him to point it out.
I also found it interesting that Watters is listed as OF/1B on the roster. I assumed he'd play LF every game with maybe some DH sprinkled in. I wonder if he actually plays any 1B this season.

Do you guys know when the first scrimmage is? I heard a while back Oct. 8th, but I couldn't confirm.

I have a feeling about Laya.
I also believe Bino will get looks at 1B, even if just in the fall, just in case a 4th OF emerges or even just to get a 4th OF some work. Braun can slide to DH in that scenario.
I'm most interested to see the pitchers and catchers in the fall.

Jay said practice started on the 8th so I would assume that is the first scrimmage.
