Agree with Adam on Hood and his potential for rotation but we need WSchmidt to take that next jump if there is any hope of moving Evans to the pen. Cant count on the freshman but would be a nice surprise. Just need Moore to come back as Moore for a Sun role.

We need to have about 5 guys ready to get through a line up twice, with a couple of those capable of getting guys out a third time as well.

Who starts and who relieves after that may just be a preference of the pitcher after that, but we need 5 pitchers capable of getting us through about 20-22 innings a weekend minimum. It would be really nice if one of those 5 was lefthanded too.

Moore fits in as a perfect Sunday guy…veteran who can pitch to contact, good feel for a change up, control.

The bullpen has so many question marks. I agree with Project in whoever doesn’t start from the that group of 5 needs to be ready to flip the lineup over at least once on average.

This is hilarious to read after you called him the best 3rd baseman in the portal and claimed Jay upgraded the position overall. LOL

Feel free to link the thread. Actually, don't. We don't need that shite here.

Carraway was by and large ranked as one of if not the top 3rd basemen in the portal. He was a top 50?ish player coming out of HS. He produced more than Braswell, especially early in the season when I likely said that. He had a .950 fielding percentage.

I love what Braswell did for the program. He was excellent defensively down the stretch, but he didn't hit his weight. It really wasn't going to take much of anything to upgrade the position offensively - no matter how much I hated Carraway.

I'm sorry I don't spend all season whining and complaining and shitting on half the roster for attention. Ya got me!

ETA: I just went and looked. I said that Carraway was better than Braswell on March 4. On March 4, Carraway was hitting .310 with a .910 OPS and 15 RBI and had committed 1 error. Yes. He ended up being horrendous, but at that point of the season, his production was better than anything we had in 2025. Sorry all. Back to your regularly scheduled programing.

Here’s to hoping he can find a role similar to Ott (09), Hess (17), Shores (23).

I could be wrong, but isn't the read on Schmidt more of a "this guy can throw strikes but won't get the strikeouts necessary to be The Guy at this stage"?

Maybe more of a 2025 Cooper Williams role could be in the cards.

That maybe be a bit much.

in good years it was maybe 5 guys giving us 18 and then every other arm available on Sunday.

I feel like we already have 4 of those:

W. Schmidt
Hood
Moore
Evans

I wonder if a guy like Plog, or either of the RHP sophmores, are ready to take that jump. Maybe Velazquez can stretch out longer.

I also keep forgetting about Nawrocki. Do we think he makes a bigger impact than L. Schmidt in year 1?

I'm logging SEC series right now and adding the top 5 innings guys each weekend (because who really cares about non-conference).

I've done 2022 and 2023 so far and they're averaging 19+ innings per weekend, and that's including a 2 game weekend at South Carolina in 2023.

What's crazy is that we've won a series where our top 5 pitchers got us 17 innings and lost 3 series where they've gotten us 20.1.

Every time I look at 2022 box scores I get a renewed appreciation for Makhail Hilliard.

ETA: I just got to 2025 and the Mississippi State series is how I expect innings distributions to go regularly this year. 4.1, 4, 5, 4, and 4 for the top 5.

The next week was Oklahoma when we only used 5 pitchers. I don't expect that to happen often.

ETA: Just finished logging the games. For the first 4 years, we averaged 20 innings per SEC weekend from our top 5 pitchers. Last year it was 18.5. We had a couple outlier weekends last year getting 23.1 and 24 innings. We also had 4 weekends where we didn't even get 17 innings from our top 5.

The very first SEC weekend under Jay we got 16.2 innings. We didn't go that low again until 2026 when we did it 4 times.

I think he’s inline for a Cowan type role. Will play to his recovery better & he can open up a little more in shorted stints

Moore would have to get beat out to not start. There sure aren't 3 pitchers with a greater chance to start than him right now.

I personally would like to see William Schmidt on Friday. He's more likely than Evans to stay a starter.

The guys who post in this thread obviously read a lot and are very tuned in and I really appreciate the information they bring to the board. With that said I have learned not to read too much into anyone's player evals on TD. It's pretty apparent no one knows wtf they're looking at in HS ball, summer leagues, or even LSU preseason practice. I don't think it's anyone's fault, but that its just very very difficult to judge how a player will perform when the lights come on. MLB scouts do it for a living and are wrong all the time. You gotta give a TDer a break

Velazquez threw 5 innings once, 4 innings once, and 3 innings once. The rest of his outings were 2 innings or less, but he was also an infielder and got 18 at bats. I think he will be capable of extending.

Well frankly you could say the same thing about coaches, scouts, GMs, and everyone else. Nobody KNOWS how any player will perform. If anyone did their team would never lose a game.

If he can continue to develop his slider and changeup he will get the K's. His FB is not a swing and miss pitch (currently) but his slider has pretty good depth to it he just needs to show the ability to throw it for strikes. Similar to the changeup. But again best case scenario is hes able to fit into that Casan Evans 2025 role. Might be more likely he lands in that 2023 Herring Role where hes used later in the season when hes refined those offspeed pitches.

I would not start Evans on game 1 of series

Hopefully someone can take that spot from him and you could have the option for Evans to close out a game 1 if necessary or hold him for the game 2 start

Game 1 is so crucial in SEC series

Idk I just disagree. If the staff can continue to refine his command he has that ability to just dominate a lineup. When hes on its elite. Now if William Schmidt is able to command his pitches better and the staff feels hes more ready for Game 1 and Evans fills in the Game 2 spot I would think thats best but theres just so many unknowns right now with every starting pitcher having things they need to work on. But I love the potential we have combined with the experience.

I was trying to temper expectations by using Williams instead of Herring but appreciate the insight.

Probably a hot take but I almost wondered at some point was Jay using Evans on Friday to pitch backwards. If he’s on, he can be competitive with anyone but if he’s not then you burned him against the other teams ACE.

yeah you give Evans the OOC at least to show he’s a starter.

Depending on how everyone else is looking you go from there.

If he struggles I could see him taking Chase Shores’s role
