Happy draft day everybody!

I know you member Beau Jones, Rocky. Who could also hit the shite out of the ball
This pretty much him

His mechanics do look like Primeaux. Good call
Even if he's 50/50 ability between hitting and pitching, I see his playing time being at pitcher as a freshman. And then it's hard to reverse course after that, especially if he excels. The Brown and Guidry decisions were similar. Need for hitting and need for pitching, respectively. And they both performed well as freshmen.

Pretty good comp. Beau Jones was the most electric arm I’ve seen up close and personal when we played him in high school. Hell of a baseball player.

Baseball America article today talked about the record number of draft opt outs, with some emphasis on current college players. Apparently in the NIL negotiations, there are stipulations that are being put in that guys will get more by pulling out of the draft completely than they will by simply committing and testing the waters.
Makes sense intuitively, but it’s nice to see actual reporting on it.

Kiley McDaniel is reporting that the Reds are heavy on Matt Ponatoski for an over slot deal late on day 1.
We recruited him for baseball, but he signed with Kentucky as a QB and RHP/SS. So I hope he signs pro because frick them.
ETA: there is so much news flying around this morning. I think the White Sox are going to draft a ton of local (to them) HS guys and overt pay them. Santarelli and Landon Thome among them.

Brown was barely hitting 90 on the mound and was too good of an athlete.
It was kind of crazy how much hype brown had on the mound with no plus tools. He pitched for team USA and MLB.com had him as a top 100 prospect with his control being his best tool. He gets to campus and couldn’t throw a strike then he turns into a full time hitter.

Mock drafts for MLB are highly unreliable, mostly because of the money slot factor.

Is there non MLB.com coverage of the draft today?

Jared Jones was a combine star 3 different times and almost fell out of the top 10 rounds as a junior.
That’s what I keep going back to when people say Santarelli is 100% a sure thing. I actually think Jared jones has a more athletic swing.
Hitting a combine can be fools gold.
Game power vs raw power is a totally different thing. Not that he doesn’t have it, but you have to be able to get to the ball vs live pitching. I have several questions about him regarding that, the competition he faced, defensive position, and projectibility given his frame.

On TV, I believe today is NBC. I think you can follow the picks on MLB.com
Posted on 7/11/26 at 12:56 pm to mikejsjr0912
NBC is significantly behind mlb.com.

In non-LSU news, Hunter Elliott is returning to Ole Miss for his 15th year

Curiel to the Pittsburgh tigers

Skenes, Griffin, Curiel... the Pittsburgh Tigers continue
Posted on 7/11/26 at 1:07 pm to ProjectP2294
Hunter Elliott headed back to Ole Miss for year 27. Ridiculous.
Edit: Sorry TigerCub. You beat me too it. I started to post, then paused to watch Curiel get picked before hitting send.
