Walks as much as strikes out, which I like. Solid player that shouldn't break the bank.

This year especially, Jay is keeping information very close to the vest. It's difficult to know who Jay has an interest in or not. I'm surprised the OF from Kent St hasn't been mentioned, but that doesn't mean Jay isn't talking to him or his agent.

Baseball reference has his positions played from his freshman year but not last year. Played CF in 13 games as a freshman. Anyone know where he spent most of his time last year?

As someone else mentioned earlier, it would be nice to have someone who could at least hold their own in CF added to the fold. Other than incoming freshman, only William Patrick seems to have that capability on the roster right now

I believe Wachs could play CF.

I looked at the first 7 games of the year and it was 5/2 RF/DH.

I think he DH'd against us.

I heard we're starting to make a push for the Tulane OF

I don't understand this. At this point, OF doesn't seem like a position of need (we already have two starting positions locked up via Braun and Watters, both of whom are better than Wachs; also, we have 4 stud OF signees, one of whom will likely make it to campus). Meanwhile, we have major deficiencies at 2B and 3B (Ruckert and Pearson don't appear to be SEC caliber players). Thoughts?

One thing jay mentioned in that recent interview is he will be prioritizing defense more when it comes to portal players moving forward. I think that’s a good filter to think through when trying to figure out who will play cf.
He’s always very hesitant to give out his reasoning anything but it seems as if these will be some shifts in strategy regarding the portal moving forward:

- top heavy portal classes/developmental guys come from hs
-prioritizing defense more
-he’s developing and/or updating a system for balancing recruiting/game management for this time of year. (Would love to know details behind his plans for this)

Figured.

Savoie and Hanoian are the only ones that really interest me from that list.

Coincidentally HS teammates with Derek Curiel.

Wachs was all RF and DH, but he had a hip injury he was dealing with all year which their coach said was why he DH'd as much as he did. Not sure if they would have played him more in CF if healthy.

My thoughts are if we only have two good outfielders going into next year we likely need a third. Just because we bring in an OF doesn't mean we can't bring in an IF also.

Also if by chance Milam comes back, we no longer have major deficiencies at both 3B and 2B.

Park’s big arm at 3rd and Milam at SS would be a beautiful sight to see

I’m wondering if we’re going to pick up Mikey Bell from Gonazaga at 3B, have Milam Return, and then have Park and Ruckert duke it out at 2B. I also think that this is a possibility

Curiel is youngest in this draft class and wants $4 million bonus Milam wants $1.5 That’s very aggressive

Curiel will get $4MM in his sleep. It’s actually a conservative number, not aggressive. That’s the slot value for the 23rd overall pick and he just got mocked 8th overall which has a $6.9MM slot. If he gets picked 8th, he has to get at least $3.4MM by rules. It will be closer to $5MM.

Braun is likely better suited at 1B than OF. You want to be able to DH one of Serna/Bide so they can remain as rested as possible to rotate at the C position. This only changes if you scoop a defense first C in the portal who has a capable bat.

Not sure how you could watch Ruckert, outside of his early PT struggles, and not see promise.

Ruckert hit the ball hard all over the field, just right at people. He had the 4th lowest BABIP on the team (18 qualified hitters) and had the second lowest K rate behind only Milam.

His raw numbers didn't look good, sure - but you can tell he has a ton of talent. He's also very rangy and has a good arm.

You don't pencil him in at 2B, but you absolutely don't go into this off season saying you need to replace him. Pearson, yes. I think he needs to be replaced. If you get Milam back? Pearson is already replaced.

I don't know if there was an injury to deal with, but he accumulated zero stats in the field in 2026.

Looks like all of this time in any position was either in the Cal Summer League as an incoming Freshman, or the West Coast League last summer.

How is he defensively? If he's a good defender, you absolutely bring in the boom/bust catcher and then have a ton of flexibility with corner OF/1B/DH between He, Braun, Bide, and Serna.

Also 6'1 185 (if accurate) leads me to believe he can add more weight and even more power to the frame, if he's movable to C full time (I see Project's note about no defensive stats at USC).
