What are you hearing on Jarin Advincula so far?
Posted on 6/24/25 at 2:55 pm to Cottonport
So...best case scenario we close on...
Advincula Cal 2B
Calloway UNO 1B/RHP
Mack Rutgers RHP
Add at least 1 LHP...hopefully 2. And perhaps another outfielder?

I could see
Advincula
Calloway
Mack
Ure (OK state lefty)
Lachenmayer (NDSU lefty)
DiMartini (Dayton Outfielder)

Seems like they are pretty intent on adding an OF and another MIF based on the number of portal follows at those positions.
I'd expect 1 OF, 1 MIF, at least 1 starting caliber pitcher to compete with our rising freshmen, (maybe even 2) and at least 2 LHP to replace what we may be losing in our bullpen.

I got the chance to watch Ruiz (Lamar) in a 3 game series this year and was very impressed. You can watch a game and see that some players are just different, he is one of them. Here or elsewhere, he will be successful. I happen to know some people from Livingston, TX which is his home town and they say he is a class human being.

I like the idea of adding an impact bat like DiMartini in the OF, but what if Larson and Stanfield stay. I know the best will play, but that makes for a crowded situation. Jay may already know that one or both of them are gone though

I was told Landon is having Tommy John

I hate that the portal is before the draft. Jay has to guess at what players will stay and leave in the draft before the draft and fill the holes in the portal. So what happens when you convince a player to come to LSU , pay him NIL and then don't need them because the draft worked out in your favor? Do you tell the kid to kick rocks when he could have chose another team in the portal? I think this played in with Trevor Schmidt when Jones decided to return. It's complicated for the coaches and the players.

Point I'm making is, are we still looking at outfielders because of uncertainty with Moss, Larson and Stanfield?
The same for other positions.

Yeah, it is a weird system, but my guess is maybe admissions plays a part. What will be interesting is when the rosters have to be at 34 on 12/1.Teams can carry more in the fall and then cut guys. Nothing about redshirting to get to 34 is mentioned. I did read there is talk of opening the portal after the CWS. Maybe having some overlap with the draft will help.

and you have Daniel Harden coming in from JUCO

I think you're going to be able to carry more than 34 because you will be able to grandfather certain players in somehow. But I'm not sure how any of that is going to work or if they have even developed any guidelines for it at all.

That would make sense, but what is stated is 34 by 12/1. I would think you should be able to carry a couple redshirt guys in case of injuries, but they may not have all of that figured out yet.

There really isn’t anyone in question that is going to hold them hostage

Cullen McKay from Coastal is in the portal and we are on him.
Cullen McKay, RHP, Coastal Carolina, JR
1.46 ERA, 12.1 IP, 7H, 2ER, 10BB, 18K, 1.378 WHIP
