Are we just assuming Frey is gone?? I feel like there's a greater than 50% chance he's back and I would expect him to start at 1st if so.
It would be a surprise him coming back, he's a junior and loses all leverage. All depends on what kind of offers he gets from MLB teams but I would imagine its significant enough he would sign over what maybe he could make here in NIL for a year.
Frey is #130 overall right now on MLB.com's board which would put him in the more than half a million range in terms of signing bonus
We cant compete with that IMO

I'd be shocked if he is back. He'd lose leverage.

Yeah, I think Frey is long gone, he'll get drafted before Bear Jones possibly

I guess I was just assuming LSU could get him a half million dollars considering he's more important to the success of next year's team than any returner, recruit, or portal target. Along with the fact that he could definitely play himself into a higher draft position with his talent. I was thinking he would have to get offered a million for it to make sense for him to go.

He could definitely play himself into a higher draft position. But even doing so would play himself into a lower bonus.
He doesn't need to stand out in left field for 60 games to prove anything to pro scouts that they can't figure out by watching him run the bases.

This is the part that blows my mind that most people aren't comprehending when saying he needs to come back and show he can play a position. You could swear he is a fat, slow, power hitting DH only.

Blaise Priester is going to Southeastern.

How does NIL factor into all of this, though? Let's say LSU was able to get 300-400K in NIL compensation for him, might that be enough to cause him to forego a similar (or slightly higher) signing bonus? After all, those signings bonuses are one-time pieces, with most players receiving very small salaries in minor league ball.
I could see a scenario for some of these guys where, if the NIL piece was right, it might be even or close to even in the end, which would open the door for a return to school.

I don't think he needs to prove he can play a position. I think he could be the best hitter in college baseball next season. I think he's a 1st round talent. I don't think he would be getting his worth if offered 500k. That's all.

I think that NIL has totally changed the game. The traditional logic of "giving up your leverage" doesn't seem to apply as much anymore. The softball pitcher from Texas Tech just inked a deal for a million and a quarter after a year where she made over a million. I am not suggesting someone like Frey would get that here, but I think the NIL space at LSU is in a better position than it was probably even a year ago to where we could compete on some of these signing bonuses. At least to get it into a place where they could at least reasonably consider staying.

I wasn't directing that toward you specifically. The comment from Project just made me think of multiple people on here that do suggest that a position will help his draft value for next year and that isn't true.
There is definitely a scenario where he can get some NIL and come back and have a big year and make the most value for himself. However, it would take a crazy year like what Ivan Melendez did at Texas his senior year which is a pretty tall task. He was the best hitter in the country with 32 homers and got drafted in the 2nd round and signed for 1.4 mil.

we may go into next year with just Williams, Primeaux and True Freshmen, so I imagine well take as many quality lefties as we can get.

Well we can scratch him off the list

He didn't have the chest. LOL

It wouldn’t surprise me in Primeaux hit the portal. He’s been used primarily as a LOOGY. No doubt he saw what Dutton and Bucknam did with greater opportunity and opt for that route.
