Does he have potential at 3B?

He can, but Jay has prioritized a big bat at 3B for the last 3 years. There isn’t a Jacob Berry or Tommy White in the portal, but I would think he tries really hard for a corner IF to put there.

Another name to monitor:

6-1, RHP, Alex Canney, Tampa

Junior season: 3.21 ERA, 106.2 IP, 105 H, 99K, 21 BB, 1.18 WHIP

A .259 BAA against in Division II doesnt seem like would translate well to the SEC

Would definitely like to see way higher strikeout numbers and way lower BAA for a Division II pitcher.

Jacob Mayers officially in the portal.

TBH, he should probably just follow Silva. The jump to the Sunbelt would be a big enough jump in competition that if he improves his control and command, it would boost his draft stock.

I wouldn’t punt on Mayers just yet
He could dominate mid week games or be that 3/4 starter

Just saw this on twitter.
quote:

Current LSU players attending the MLB combine:

Justin Loer
Christian Little

Signees attending the combine:
Konnor Griffin
Cam Caminiti
William Schmidt
Cade Arrambide
Boston Bateman

Casan Evans
David Hogg II

Only good news I guess is no Curiel? Maybe an indication on which way he's leaning?

The person the combine benefits the most is Christian Little. By attending, it means he can't get a low ball offer in the first ten rounds. They have to offer at least a certain percentage of slot value (I don't remember the %).

I don't know how much of an indicator it is in general for everyone else. I haven't tracked the numbers on combine attendees and how many get to campus.

One of the things you have to do is submit medicals though. That could affect some of the pitchers.

List of LSU 2023 recruits who attended the 2023 combine

Cam Johnson - LSU
Blake Mitchell - Signed
Ashton Larson - LSU
Steven Milam - LSU
Jake Brown - LSU

Every draft eligible player that attended signed except Little, but they were all higher round picks/seniors except for Thompson.

Ohio State's coach just left to return to being an assistant at TCU after two years in Columbus.

That's a bad look for Big Ten baseball.

I don't know what else is available on Ohio State's roster since their top pitcher is already in the portal, but I'm sure it's about to be raided.

Loer is probably gone with his lack of use this past season

While Loer wasn’t used a ton by IP, he actually led the relievers in appearances with 26.

Jay mentioned him and Ulloa (along with Herring, Jones, Braswell, Pearson) by name as guys he's recruiting/wants to return if the draft opportunities don't align. I'd be surprised if he enters. He'll be a senior so going somewhere isn't really going to change much for him draft wise regardless. Plus he appeared in 26 games, they believe in him.
