The roster limit spreading players around could give some incentive to some schools to start up programs.

I can't see too many university's starting new programs anytime soon with the revenue share coming down, in fact it's likely to force more baseball teams from smaller schools to shut down.

Although you're example of SMU is plausible because they should have the budget for that.

I'm going to be doing a breakdown soon but LSU and Tennessee cleaned up in the draft with respect to HS prospects.

Definitely seems to be trending on past and future data that lsu and tennessee are the premier programs now. I could make an immediate one year argument for texas am and potentially a long term argument for fsu, though their class got gutted

I have been saying this for a couple of years now. The days of the old and wise coaches are gone. It's an era for nose to the grindstone recruiters. Programs with lots of NIL will also benefit. Jay and Vitello are the type of coaches to hire these days. I personally wouldn't trade Jay for anyone. This is a great time to be a LSU baseball fan.

I mean Jay is a baseball junkie. this is his life.

He isn’t just a grinder but also an excellent coaching coach.

If we are truly are done with portal position players, then lsu is gonna have to work someone else in at catcher besides priester and arambide. Feels like that has to be either hernandez, yamin or jones. Not even sure who else it could be. 2 catchers, ine of which is a freshmen is just not enough.

Its even possible one of them, leaning hernandez, can win the job if their glove is decent. Know he didnt play a ton of catcher, but curious how he is back there.

Yamin has been working at catcher in summer ball. Probably both him and Hernandez should be working on it.

Isnt he a little big for the spot? Yamin?

But if he is, then so is Jones

Hernandez and Yasmin are probably our 3rd catcher plan and then Frey in a full emergency

I believe Frey is dealing with his shoulder this summer. Frey isn't a terrible option at Catcher. He could be better than Yamin and Hernandez.

That’s right, I forgot about the shoulder injury.

I hope we have someone else capable at catcher. That’s the only position we seem to be thin with limited options.

I think when it comes to adding another catcher you have to look at the portal and see if any of the catchers available are worth taking. You have 2 primary catchers in Priester and Arrambide and then 3 or so guys who are capable of catching if need be. I don't see anyone in the portal that is worth taking when they are already 44/40 for the roster. If Arrambide would have been drafted, I think they definitely add another catcher. With Arrambide to campus, I think they roll with what they have.

I think the best catcher in the portal we are connected with is Cole Christman from Southern Illinois. I just don't think he is good enough to deal with the extra roster management compared to the catcher we have on the team.

I agree BayTiger. Jones is good enough to play on weekends if one of the top two get injured. Then you have Yamin, Frey and Hernandez that could play in a reserve role. It is a little bit of a risk, but worth saving the roster spot.

I think we have all the catchers Jay needs on the team now. With Priester/Arrambide you probably feel good about those 2 and you have a handful of other guys who can catch if one of those get hurt potentially as well (Jones, Frey, Yamin, Hernandez, etc)

Someone is going to hit a homerun when they hire Ellander away from Tennessee, because he comes across as having that type of makeup as well. He may just be waiting for the right opportunity to open up (Ole Miss perhaps).

I feel good that those are 2 warm bodies both with probably good gloves and good arms. But arambide is a freshmen, thats hard in the sec at that spot, so i expect him to struggle. And priester may break out of it when jay works with him, but its not hard for me to see him struggle at the plate

Who would you say is most likely to emerge as the starting catcher, if not Priester or Arrambide?
