Herring is pretty much the only pitcher from the past 3 seasons that showed the type of growth you want to see as far as year-to-year development goes.

Joe Doyle put out 2025 top 200 MLB draft prospects. This was published in March, but shows what scouts think about these guys:
17. Chase Shores
37. Jacob Mayers
63. Kade Anderson
64. Landon Beidelschies
66. Zack Root
96. Jaden Noot
143. Aiden Moffett
Edited to include Root and Beidelschies since they are on the radar.

Kade Anderson is a draft eligible sophomore?

Mayers would come in with significant postseason experience. He could be a nice addition if he can get command of his pitches. I think it’s well worth the risk.

Not sure why you are so against the idea of him. It's not like they would be depending on him to be "that guy." However, there is potential to be.
I had to double check his stats. Pretty impressive strikeouts and BA (especially given all the walks.)

Im not against it. I just don’t really understand it from the players perspective, honestly.

Kid from Gonzales wants to play baseball for LSU, what don’t you understand?
Posted on 6/23/24 at 8:55 am to Tifway419
He is betting on himself. Im fine with it if he isnt a top 6-7 option, and it doesnt seem like he is. I doubt he can change the control issue in one season, but this isnt the worst way to try.

Plus, you get into a losers bracket of a regional and you’re looking for a start from someone, who would you rather: Coleman, Dutton, Mayers? Better chance of him giving you 6 innings and 3 hits than we’ve had. That’s not intended to be a knock on the other two as much as it is to make a case for this add. I’ll take the talent on the roster.

Mayers has a lot of walks for sure, but he has also proven he can pitch out of it. There is room on this LSU staff for a guy with the swing and miss stuff Mayers has. I see him as a trade for losing Hurd.
And this is coming from a guy who loves strike throwers with pitch-ability like Cowan.

Couple new names to follow
LHP Jacob Gomberg, Florida

Was the 46th overall player in Florida and the #9 LHP in Florida per perfect game last year.
LHP Matt Gaither, UNCW
Only tossed 3 innings last year. Had 60 innings or so the couple years before. Graduate Transfer
4-Seam 91-94 T95.2 | 20+ IVB 18+ Hor. 2500+ spin rate
CH 80-83
SL 77-80

That book is an easy read IMO. He wants to hear what Jarrett and/or Vitello has to say.

Jacob Mayers on Twitter
“I’m excited to announce that I will be transferring Louisiana State University to further my academic and baseball career! I would like to thank my family, friends, coaches and teammates who have helped me along the way! Geaux Tigers”

I think this is the likely explanation

Happy for him. He clearly is talented, but has to throw strikes.
