I don’t usually buy too much into it but I wonder how many guys really didn’t like what they heard/ were told they should explore options in their exit interviews. Only one I’m really upset about is Moffett.

At the risk of sounding like a homer, I would add to your sentiment by saying when I see these kids entering the portal I keep going back to Jay’s comment last week, “it’s going to look a lot different and that’s by design. I’m excited about that.”
Pretty telling imho.
Reflecting on that and having trust in him, it’s hard to feel much of anything about these departures. I hope they all do well except against us if that ever happens.

I’m not reading too much into anything at all with departures. Attrition is gonna happen. I mean a lot of people thought TN was crazy for letting burns leave, but it seems that was addition by subtraction.
Obviously Kling, Neal, and Moffett could easily go elsewhere and be stars. They have the tools, but after watching both of them in every game for two straight seasons I don’t feel an inch of remorse losing Kling or Neal. I feel Moffett is just a tweak or two away.

Moffett is the only one i’ll miss as well. Seemed like he was just finding consistency in his release point away from being special.

I think Neal still has a chance to be good, less confident in the others.

I think he does too. My only worry with Neal comes from Jay’s comments a few months ago about him not being able to catch more than 1 game a weekend. Seems like his back is never going to fully allow him to maximize himself

I think that press conference basically hinted at what was about to happen. It’s clear a lot of these guys didn’t fit into the plan

I know Jay wanted a lot of these guys back. I think it has more to do with playing time and competition. I don't think it's lack of chest either. They have professional aspirations and they can't make that happen on the bench. They want to start and none of them were at the end of last season starting and none are gauranteed to start in 2025.
This is what I think will change with Jay. I don't think you will see Jay bend over backwards for these guys who haven't produced enough. He is going to bring in competition and if they move on then they move on.
You are going to see less development at the major programs and more plug in players ready to go. I'm sure Jay hates this but this season taught him that it might be a necessary evil. I don't expect him to do a 180 over night but I believe this is the direction we are headed.

I agree. Not fitting in the plan also doesn’t always have to do with talent either.

Agree. He went into this season banking on Jones, Kling and Neal taking the next step and only one of them did. It’s a big reason our offense was what it was.

quote:Same here, I mentioned a few pages back that he said something to the effect that even Jay didn’t expect the portal and NIL to turn into this so quickly, but he has to adjust and he will.

I don’t think most of what has happened so far is by design or welcomed

He also implied, if not outright said, multiple times in that press conference that he would be looking to a smaller number of position players and pitchers. I would have to go back and listen again to get the exact numbers he mentioned but he basically said that’s what you’re looking for and you just hope everyone else on the roster is “bought in”.

We are looking at Bear for catcher
Bear Madliak that is Jacksonville State
Soph: .328/.400/.488, .888 OPS, 5 HR, 20 BB, 36K

it will be kid by kid.
Kling and Neal both played a lot over the last 2 seasons and didn’t show half as much as Milam, Jones, or Larson.
and that doesn’t mean Neal and Kling couldn’t develop, but I dont think either sees themselves as 4 year guys.
