Prospectslive.com has him as the #9 college prospect.

9. Paul Skenes
Right-Handed Pitcher, LSU
Paul Skenes was a phenomenon for Air Force as a freshman and sophomore before transferring. While he has some two-way potential, Skenes is a more upside on the mound working from a three-quarter arm slot with smooth mechanics, a short-arm action, hiding the ball on his back hip and creating a lot of deception. Skenes’ velocity sits in the low 90s as a starter, up to 95, but can get up to 98 in relief. He generates plenty of carry on the heater, with spin rates in the 2400 RPM range. Primary secondary offerings include a fall-off-the-table split-change and a short breaking slider, both in the low-to-mid 80s. At the plate, Skenes has some contact issues but really excels at finding the barrel and has legitimate slugging potential. Evaluators certainly prefer the arm, but the two-way upside is en vogue.

I'm not one who likes a pitcher hitting and pitching in the same game at this level. Can it be done, sure. I's rather Skenes start and concentrate on pitching his game. He can hit on days he doesn't pitch.

If .410 and .314 are considered contact issues, I can't way to see him when he gets those issues addressed.

Good link, hadn't seen that one yet. It really highlights how we went from questionable pitching depth, to ridiculous depth this offseason. 5 of the top 100 prospects are LSU pitchers (Skenes, Little, Taylor, Floyd, Money). I doubt they are all top 100 picks, but at least they are in consideration. Add on Hurd and Lansville for 2024, and Shores, Noot, and the rest of the recruits for 2025...and we have more options than I can ever remember.

LSU just put out this press release. Seems to me Johnson thinks Young will be here next season, otherwise why not wait until Monday to put this out.

BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU baseball coach Jay Johnson on Friday announced the signings of five Division I transfers that will join the Tigers for the 2023 season.
The additions to the LSU roster include right-handed pitcher Christian Little of Vanderbilt; third baseman Tommy White of North Carolina State; shortstop Carter Young of Vanderbilt; right-handed pitcher Thatcher Hurd of UCLA; and right-handed pitcher/utility player Paul Skenes of Air Force.

I’m sure CJJ does feel confident Young will be here, but releasing a presser doesn’t do anything but strengthen LSU’s side from a pressure standpoint on Young. Like, we’re announcing he’s ours. Makes Young already feel like a part of the team.
I also wouldn’t but any weight into that LSUBombs account, whatever it is that’s being “reported” there.

So I guess he thinks Pinneda from Baylor is signing

That's big. I think Noot's status gets wrapped up today, too.

They're not going to put out a press release if they feel there is a chance he'll sign. It leaves you with egg on your face if he does.

But their 12th and 13th round picks are HS kids too. Presumably expect to have to offer them more too to realistically sign them right?
Presumably, yes. But just hypothetically, just showing the maximum they *could* offer Noot

I just read 2 articles that says he has 3 refined pitches: elite spin on his heater…..a short stroke slider…….and a split change.
Not arguing….just sharing what I read

A “short stroke” slider, eh? That’s a new one for me…

You may be right. I based what I said off of the team USA game I watched a few weeks ago when he started and went 4 against the Netherlands (I think). Only showed the fastball and slider from what I recall.

Here are some details on the Brewers 11-20 (class, position, MLB ranking)
* are kids who might push for over the $125K number, especially the HS kids.
Obviously Noot and Neal are the prime players of this group but any of these over the $125K deducts from the available pool for Noot.
*11th rounder - D1JR - P - NR
*12th rounder - HS - 3B - NR
*13th rounder - HS - P - NR
14th rounder - D1SR - P - NR
*15th rounder - JUCO - C - NR
*16th rounder - JUCO -3B - NR
17th rounder - HS - C - #74 Neal - not signing
*18th rounder - HS - P - NR
19th rounder - HS - P - #79 Noot
*20th rounder - D1JR - P - NR

There has been much talk here of using him here or using him there in this situation or in that situation. I think you just use him period. Dude caught 51 games last year.
Over and above the young man's skills, his coaches believe in his leadership enough to make him an everyday contributor. Whole package.

He won't catch here. He said in an interview with Hunt today that it takes too much of a toll on his body and that he knows for his future he needs to concentrate more on pitching. Said the plan is to pitch and hit. Position options are 1B or corner OF.
Not sure if he moves well enough to play OF over other options so I would expect lots of DH with a 1B game every now and then if Morgan wants to show some versatility and play a little OF.

It seems likely Morgan will see part time duty in the OF at a minimum. It’s difficult to see both White and Skenes in the lineup without one of them at 1B.

I’m interested to see how these guys handle things with there being so many log jams. Sounds like everyone is expecting open competitions at every position and a few really good players are going to be left out. Nap was bringing up concerns of guys being over promised. Hopefully that won’t be an issue.
