The portal and NIL have made me so cynical when it comes to recruiting. But I’m loving the concentration of lineman in this class. Quality offensive and defensive lineman. Now we just need some secondary additions to really bring this home.

And top 6 players from Mississippi and Tennessee, not to mention the other high end guys from Texas and Florida. And 8 of Louisianas' finest.

I'm not sure LSU is in the market for a high ceiling/low floor transfer or needs another body at WR, but the WR from Arkansas-Pine Bluff might deserve a look. Unrated prospect out of Opelousas in 2022.

Entered the transfer portal after a 70 catch, 1,215 yard, 9 TD sophomore season.

Ranked the 10th best FCS prospect for the 2025 draft.

quote:

10. WR JaVonnie Gibson, Arkansas Pine-Bluff

Grade Height Weight

Mid 7th 6'3" 205

JaVonnie Gibson is an intriguing prospect and a good example of non-linear development. He started his career at Arkansas-Monticello, a Division 2 school, where he didn't record any stats.

But he transferred to Arkansas Pine-Bluff in 2024 and currently leads the FCS with 937 receiving yards. Listed at 6-foot-3, 205 pounds, Gibson has an enticing blend of size, speed, and quickness. He’s an explosive deep threat who can stretch the field and track the ball through contact.

Through Week 9, he leads the FBS and FCS with 18 receptions of 20 or more yards.

— James Foster (@JamesFosterNFL) October 30, 2024
He isn’t just a linear receiver; he has a creative release package and sudden change of direction ability to separate as an intermediate route runner. His inexperience is obvious on tape, but Gibson could be a high-upside lottery ticket for a team that’s willing to be patient.
