First off, it’s now LEGAL to pay players, but don’t think for a second they weren’t doing that already. Ask Will Wade about it.

That said, all you need as a kid is a few hundred thousand because you know the NFL is your future. Only the kids with the worst support system would think otherwise.

It’s starting to feel like baseball. Except instead of going pro, they chose the team with the most money offered and who knows after that.

Don’t ever forget that we won a title and had 2 Heisman Winners that were both transfers. JD was a 4-star QB ranked 35th nationally while Burrow was barely a 4-Star ranked 210th nationally

It’s nice to sign blue chips but we would really like the ones that chose us over the ones that chose the money, blue chips or not

Well it went from 25k or 100k to 12 million real quick

Average for 5 star QB is 1.5 million until underwood

Don’t think it won’t move the needle each year

Ridiculous

Dude, a bunch of these kids are never touching the NFL. They could be a best, get injured, who knows. They’re gonna take the money they can get now.

You do not compete consistently without having the best players. And right now, they see the value of their talent and they are shopping it.

We can complain all we want, but if any of us were told our chances at NFL was slim(which it is for almost everyone of these players), then why not get everything you can while you can? It is the smart thing to do.

well LSU is showing that they can and will compete with most of the competition out there, what's the evidence? the fact that they got Pickett, Berry and maybe get Thomas in the end.

I get what LSU's doing, they're being extremely selective in how they approach this, bc you don't want to leave yourself exposed to getting burned in the end by committing so much to a prospect that may never ever pan out.

but you're going to need to play ball if you want to stand with Oregon and Texas.

Less than 2% of college football players make it to the NFL. That number is probably slightly higher if you just consider major conf. D-1 players, but it is NOWHERE close to a certainty. Only the most ignorant of posters would think otherwise.

If someone is offering you $1M, $2M today you take it unless there is some compelling reason not to. That's more money than the many people will earn in 20-30 years of employment. Some in their entire working lives.

That sounds great...if you want to be Vanderbilt, Oregon St, Northwestern, etc.

Stupid. First off, you take the guarantee that you’re set for life if you want, and still have the same chances to make the NFL (Marvin Harrison Jr had a shitty QB and was a top pick)

Second off, many of them won’t pan out.

Third off, do you really think 17 year old kids are smart enough to even think in the future? Even if they were more guaranteed a spot in the NFL at one school than the other one. A lot of these players can’t even score in the 20s on an ACT.

You think that all of these recruits are going to be stars in the NFL?

John Emery was once a 5 star top 2 RB in the country. He has since torn two ACL's and will probably never be on an NFL roster.

Would be hard to tell my kid to turn down millions of dollars. Nothing in the future is guaranteed, especially in football.

Tough to be mad at someone for taking a pile of cash. LSU will be fine. Just makes you appreciate the kids that sign with LSU that much more.

For the same reasons it hasnt happened already. There are not a lot billionaires that give a shite about college football. They also didnt become billionaires, nor will they stay billionaires, by throwing away $40M on an emotional whim to build a college football roster.

A tiny fraction of college players make it into the NFL and an even smaller amount last more than 2 years. There is no guarantee these blue chip players out of HS will amount to anything. Most players come from no money at all so it’d be dumb to not take the money now. There is nobody sane who would pass on 1M+ to instead get “a few hundred thousand.”

What percentage of 5 star kids make it to the NFL? I believe it’s a very high number!

you think waiving $1MM in the face of a 17 year old doesn’t matter?
