Probably. But not every school is DBU coming off a Natty and now has to get in late on a Kansas State commit to fill the spot

I can’t speak to the TE Bama signed because I’m not familiar with the situation. Star ratings mean very little to me, if a guy like extended an offer that tells me he was not a 3-star in Sabans eyes. Remember, Josh Jacobs was some scrub 3-star from Oklahoma that Saban signed despite being on the heels of multiple Heisman winners at RB.
Context is everything. If Saban targeted the TE and camped him then you trust the eval and not the ranking. In this case with Langlois, he’s a local kid that didn’t get to improve his status with LSU at a camp this summer so what we do know is that Busch/Raymond went after Collier, Mukuba et al at first because they were clearly higher on the board, then when we started striking out they offered this kid late. That is typically not a great move.
Again, star rankings are not part of this conversation. LSU gets commitments from kids all the time that are not highly rated but the difference is you can tell the coaches knew what they had and targeted them early. Some of our best players the last decade or more fit this very profile. So, again, big difference than what’s going on here. Context matters.

Like Cushionberry, Moreau, and Jefferson?

Mac Jones camped at Bama and Saban offered him on merit, not star rankings.
Who cares if a shite school like Kentucky took a super early commitment from him, these subpar recruiting schools routinely use this tactic to try and gain an edge over the recruiting powers.
Vince Marrow has been masterful at it and it’s why UK has seen its roster dramatically improve for its standards

You can only sign 25. Sometimes holes open up late. We didn’t take Cushionberry from South Carolina because we whiffed on other OLs, or TEs in Moreau’s case. A spot just opened late.
Jefferson earned a camp offer and only needed to get his grades. For the kids you mention, a spot opened up late. It wasn’t a matter of whiffing at those particular positions as much.
The difference with Langlois is the offer clearly came after whiffing on national recruits at Safety.

I hate to state the obvious, but he's ranked 719th nationally, the 54th ranked safety, and the 21st best player in LA by the 24/7 Composite.
Still DBU?
Still DBU?

Yeah Jack Hunt and Craig Steltz were definitely better football players than Laron Landry, Jamal Adams, Eric Reid, Ryan Clark, Tyrann Matheiu, Grant Delpit...
I don't know about all that but that is a great group of db's. I would take any of those guys regardless of color out there, except maybe Ryan Clark, because frick Ryan Clark lol.

Nice PC but overall, nothing eye catching. Pretty fast for a safety I guess. Now, if you add legit “freak athleticism” to it, then you got something.
A 195lb high school kid cleaning 315lbs is eye catching for any high school program, and would be comparable already to most kids his size already at LSU

Well, those 2 numbers are 100% concrete fact. 197 to be exact lol.

Most tight ends are 3 stars.
Im sure he is probably more of a blocking tight end.
Bama takes one a year
I have no problem offering this kid, all I said is he is way better moving forward. He knocks the shite out of ball carriers.
I didn't see him making the class but they missed on the big fish.
He is from louisiana and those players usually turn out to be players

Every other school is going to miss a target & settle for someone lesser lol
Recruits like Darren Evans and now Langlois aren't exactly going to result in an elite secondary.

Langlois is a beast. He locked up Keon Coleman two years in a row along with several other 3 and 4 star recruits.

You’ve mentioned saban a dozen times in this thread alone. Get off his dick and gtfo, gump.

Name them. People keep saying this but never bring the names that we missed on. I'm sure there were some kids we swung for and missed but none we were prominently mentioned with. It seems we passed on Mukuba(likely would've missed anyway), the FL kid we whiffed on but most don't even know for sure if he was a take or not meaning we likely weren't as really in it as it was made out. Anyone else was really early and have no effect on Langlois. We are still trying with Derrick Davis but who knows anything with him lately. Their just aren't big time S out there this class available. It's too early for much film to know about risers. Langlois is a known commodity to the staff and may be take now and not later.

Not a bad offer but I'm still wondering what the staff doesn't see in Jardin Gilbert
