There's been conflicting reports about that, so I wouldn't be so sure of anything until someone from LSU's staff says something.

Why do we have to sign one next year? Did Gonsoulin and/or Culp cease to exist and I didn't get the memo?

If he can actually consistently make field goals, I'm all for it. Last year even extra points weren't automatic. If he can out kickoffs in the end zone, even better.

If they were confident in either of those two they wouldn’t have taken the new guy to begin with.

well....since no one from LSU is making any statements about how many schollies we actually have, if there is any back counting for signing less than 25 last year and having an early enrollee(s) back count; if the GT kicker actually counts in the 25 or not....come Feb 7 it will all be answered by Ed O & LSU. We will know then.

Cause if we had a decent kicker on the roster..... we wouldn’t need this transfer kicker......then he leaves after 1 year and we still have the same shitty kickers again !!!! So we need to sign a good kicker !!

It's disappointing considering the limited spots. Culp and/or Gonsulin may develop next year and be fine for 2019.

The positive I see is we are going to be so stacked on defense in 2018 I expect a lot of close low scoring games so a consistent kicker may be the difference in 2-3 games so that would be absolutely worth a scholarship.

Exactly...one or both of those need to grow a pair...also, schollies are really only on a year to year basis...one of them two needs to step up...someone may get processed

Shut up....... A reliable kicker is worth about 4-6 points in XP and 6-9 points in FG. That about 4-15 pts / game. Worth is weight in gold if he is reliable.

And if LSU loses a game next season because we miss an easy FG you would start a thread bitching because we didnt sign a kicker.

It is amazing how many of our fans think they know whats more needed than the coaching staff.

You're 100% right, all I'm saying is this, I think we could agree that both guys have legitimate skills.

We have have 14 months until the 2019 late signing period. I could totally see a scenario where a guy like Culp, who flashed some real ability this season, makes enough strides over those 14 months where LSU doesn't feel they need to sign another kicker.

I could also see LSU telling him to look elsewhere this summer, or they just never become comfortable with his abilities. Finally, my point being, this is something that we should really let play out.

One point to consider is WTF did the HC not have a ST coach last year? That may have had something to do with Culp and Gonsulin struggling. Certainly didn’t help

You misunderstand.....guess I gotta explain it

I have no problem signing this kicker this year for a scholly .... hope it doesn’t cost us one though.

My problem is.... we then have to spend another Scholly again NEXT YEAR.

2 Scholly in 2 years on field goal kickers.

Why can’t he just walk on and then be offered a scholarship that counts towards the hard 85 limit? This seems like a way around the 25 a year year limit.

Because of the coaching staff limitations which is the reason a lot of other teams didn't either. 2018 we are allowed 10 coaches on staff and O already said he is adding a ST coach. We had a consultant for 2017. This situation was not exclusive to LSU.

Just because they didn't have a ST coach doesnt mean they weren't getting coached by a ST coach in practices. He just couldn't be on the sidelines for games. Which I'm not sure how much good that would have done anyway.
