Shreveport sports radio is out of the loop. He’s signing with Bama.

You’re thinking Tim Fletcher knows more about it than Shea Dixon and Billy Embody?

That’s what I thought , the response was. It’s gonna be verrrrry interesting. My reply, no it’s not . Bama wins again

No such thing as grey shirt or blue shirt
quote:It's called a "medical noncounter" in NCAA parlance. You can take it from there since you always seem to challenge anyone here who says anything bad about the Gumps.
But if there is a way around signing limits why is BAMA the only school which can avail themselves of the loophole?
And it isn't that the Gumps are the only ones to have access to said loophole. It was discussed using it at LSU under Orgeron, and between the coaching staff and the administration it was decided not to pursue it except for exceptional cases for PR (i.e. recruiting) and ethical reasons.

I was hoping that fletch would have some inside info considering he’s on with the kids coach every week. They don’t even know though most of the time, and if they did they won’t tell it .

How many years does a player have to be on the team until you can declare him medically retired?

I know it's not looking good for the good guys, but damn if he surprises us and picks us over Bama he could be a legend here.

Law has probably already signed with bama. The rest is just pomp and circumstance.

Nope, its a made up term, no such status exists. It refers to an unenrolled person who has no status as a student or athlete and neither the school or the student have any obligation to the other.
This individual then may receive a scholarship and enroll in the spring semester as a part of the next signing class and essentially becomes an early enrolee. Every school in
the country can do this.

Then why does this constantly come up on this board as though Alabama is the only one to do it?
I despise Alabama and there are many things to complain about favoritism they receive from the league and officials, but this is not one of them.

quote:A) it is not in the NCAA bylaws by that term, on that you are correct
Nope, its a made up term, no such status exists.
B) are you saying it doesn't exist because the NCAA bylaws do not have the specific term "greyshirt" or "blueshirt"? By changing the terminology it doesn't exist, is that it?
C) NCAA does use the term, often. Just not in the bylaws. Here's an example from their own website: NCAA.org
quote:because the Gumps are the only prolific users of it, and in a way to specifically gain a counter on both the 25 and 85 man limits. Everybody else uses it sparingly and without the intention (how & when it is applied) to get a spot.
Then why does this constantly come up on this board as though Alabama is the only one to do it?
Note I am not talking about a medical redshirt. It isn't a 'shirt' at all. It is medical retirement applied in a way to constitute a medical noncounter.
quote:0 - 5. If I'm not mistaken Michigan recently had a backup QB that signed but never dressed or practiced and had medically retired and the received a medical noncounter. He then withdrew his retirement (first time ever allowed maybe?) and is in the transfer portal.

yes, through Jan 13th (essentially while bowl games are happening). But all the "dead" period means is no face to face- no off campus visits or evaluations by coaches, no OV or UOV by recruits. All other forms of contact are acceptable, including phone/video.
There's an exception: 7 days before enrollment/start classes can have contact at school.
And, side not, if they signed a NLI LOI they are no longer a recruit and they can be contacted or visited at any time.
Thats essentially what I thought. I was having difficulty finding that information. Thank you.

Just saw a Southwood coach post on Facebook that Law isn’t that good.

Posted on 12/17/21 at 4:54 pm to Mr Clean
Haha he might not be, but Southwood is 1-24 in their last 25 games played.
